Most LD players which have a digital video memory for clear scan, freeze frame, & trick play on CLV discs store only one field (half an interlaced frame) & repeat it. This significantly reduces video quality, but avoids picking out two adjacent fields which are, for example, from different film frames. On CAV discs the frames are supposed to be assigned to avoid this (although they often aren't), but most players cannot address CLV frames. Some players, however, do store & play back a whole frame (2 fields). I currently have two :
Pioneer LD-V8000 This player can address CLV frames, assuming the disc was correctly mastered, & may be the only one which does. It can be set, by computer control, to reproduce either frames or fields, & has multiple memory buffers to enable unusual forms of trick play.
Sony HIL-C2EX This player reproduces full frames by default, but can be set to reproduce fields instead, using a button on the (hideously complicated) remote control, in case you catch two adjacent fields which don't go well together. Note that this applies only to NTSC playback ; MUSE digital stills are always full-frame.

Interestingly I don't think the DVL-919E has this feature. I remember spotting the feature in the 919 manual but have had no luck getting the option to display. I've never managed to find a copy of the 919 manual either.
