The EAD T7000 . . . . . . looks kind of like a Theta Data II to me. So if it is, it's a Phillips CDV-400 under the hood. In other words, nothing special really as far as LD players go. Definitely nowhere near a CLD-97 or McIntosh MLD-7020. Now an EAD T8000, that one's a bit better as if I recall correctly, that is a CLD-99 under the hood.

Only the CDV-488 had the Crown 16-bit DAC... Philips lower players used the same chip but ungraded so they have low level linearity errors, then Philips switched to the 1-bit bitstream design because it was cheaper. Their awful, and quickly pulled from the American market, CDV-600 used the Bitstream chip. Those first "modded" players like the T7000 often had no changes made to them except for encasing the whole thing in a new shell and adding an AT&T Optical output for the digital signal. Sometimes they disconnected the internal DAC circuit completely. It depended on which "level" of player you bought since they were all intended to be hooked up to an outboard DAC. With later players, it was different, with companies like MSB making major modifications to the audio, video and power circuits.

It's called a "transport" which means there is no internal DAC. You'd have to output the digital signal to an outboard DAC or receiver. The RCA audio outputs would only be used for the analog tracks on an LD.

From the Youtube video it is the older design before the CLD-D703 For the most part, the whole "LaserDisc transport" thing was a giant rip off that often used the very cheapest players with minimal to no modifications other than a heavy wrap around shell to try and disguise the cheap player inside. As if CD playback was like an LP and needed massive vibrational shielding, etc... BTW, anyone know what player and mod's were used in the Theta Voyager CD/LD/DVD player-transport? The mod's MSB did to my DVL-700 really improved its picture quality.

substance wrote: Theta voyager is a combo unit its gotto be a pioneer dvl. I have read some claim it has pioneer components in it and some say sony. Beside its beatiful to look at the picture is not on par with pioneer elites. I had to chose between voyager and mcintosh when i was buying my player 3 or 4 years ago. Yeah, I knew it was based on a DVL model, but which one? Knowing Theta, not an Elite model.
