I have a chace to buy a ld S2 from a local seller. I already have a cld-97 second lowest noise player with side changes. Is the chromanoise much lower on s2? How does S2 compare to hld-xO for ntsc lds?

Hello and good day Substance,

I noticed a Pristine 2nd Hand LD S2 up for auction on the famous auction site the other day, and to be honest just by looking at this beast, the first thing that hits you about it is the TANK like build quality.

I to have a CLD-97 of which will be connected up in the coming weeks, I would be interested in know about the differencies between the models picture quality, but I would have thought the CLD 97 would be a slight improvement over the LD S2.

It will be interesting to read about, what others who have both of these players have to say, as they would know more than I do.

The HLD X0 Model is ultimately to one to go for, when it comes to purist's play back and I don't think many will deny this, but then it's also down to the individual and how happy they are with what they have.

I have waited four years now to get my hands on an X0, reserved and waiting with a trusted seller, who has been very understanding and patient.
I hope that the above goal will be acheived this year, but the only thing that I can see happening before this happens will be to finally take delivery of the 24+ titles that I have reserved with this same seller.

I hope someone is able to help you with your decision soon, and sorry for not being of any help at this time.

All the best to you

Regards

 :D

asking $500 I made an offer waiting response. Since I already have a player I am happy with and this S2 is only a curiosity. I will only buy if the seller accepts my much lower offer. I also bought an ead t7000 in mint condition with brand new laser foe $35 recently

You're going to get a marginally better perfomance from the S2. Is it worth what your offer is? I don't know. That's up to you. Here's what Kurtis had to say almost 5 years ago:

Is it this one?

http://longisland.craigslist.org/ele/2827101336.html

I found that as well, and was tempted even though Long Island is a bit of a haul for me from the Philadelphia area!

I've always heard good things about this player, though I've never seen one first hand. Duncan at Bayview Electronics is high on it as well as KBahr here on LDDB. "very smooth analog picture" is how they describe it.

As you have stated I do believe this does have the smoothest analog looking picture do to how low the noise levels are in the machine. Only the HLD-X0 can complete against it but the X0 has DNR and a 3D Adaptive filter far superior to the S2. X0 with filtering and DNR off is pretty equal to the S2. Now, you may need an analog TV or high quality projector to see the difference between the 97 and S2. If your setup highly digitizes the picture you loose that high quality analog look the S2 can provide. I have stayed with the 97 only because it is the closest low noise picture I can get in a two sided player to what the S2 has.

I have my 7020 hooked up to entech cvsi 1 via composite(dnr defeated) entech into vp30 w/abt102 via component. Then vp30 upscales to 1080p 60 hz. Hdmi out to yamaha rxa3000 reciever w/ hqv vida( only mosquito noise reduction applied here on mid setting) then hdmi 1080p 60hz out to pioneer elite pro 141fd 60" monitor. I found vp30 with abt102 deinterlacer best for line doubling and scaling but it doesnt have any noise reduction. Mosquito noise reduction hqv vida eliminates chroma noise with minimal resolution loss( maybe i dont see the losss since cld 97 produces already soft picture)

My offer is much lower than $500. I guess s2 with no side change is not much desired to my advantage here.

The seller should ask $500 for it on eBay. I would sell.
