I don't really have an interest in buying this, but does anybody have any info on it? I'm very curious.

I saw that. I have no interest in buying it, either, especially for what he/she wants to sell it for.

See, you can buy this thing, get the discs for 400 each and create your own discs and sell them. This could match the other thread! Will laserdiscs ever come back. Well, now they can!

Haha you could make the most ultimately rare single pressing movie ever!
Then eBay it for $10000
What are the chances of that blank having some rot?
It's an interesting item, but only if you can find affordable blanks.

I think this machine makes recordings onto the cartridge based discs, CRV discs. They can only be read in similar machines because of the cartridge.

If you found a machine that could record onto LD-R discs, and had a cache of LD-R discs, you could make recordings that anyone could play on any machine. That would be cool.

And way more expensive and way less practical than DVD-R discs. ;)

Agree, this is not compatible with LaserDisc players. The recording format is time-compressed component, similar to Betacam, and even if you took the disc out of the cartridge, you couldn't play it back.

I realized that not long after I posted.

They exist out there somewhere (probably a landfill). If the recordable LDs could be produced again, we could have the complete Indiana Jones collection on Laserdisc. If only the fourth one was worth owning...

Is it still composite video like LD or component video like Betacam?

It's an interesting item to be sure but, the incompatability of these recorders limits their appeal.

I am quite happy with recording music on my MiniDisc's

I will eventually purchase arecordable Blu-ray player for video, but my minds not made up yet.

I would think that they would find it difficult to sell those Sony LD recorders.

Thank you for posting the pictures thou, as it's good to see equipment that most have never seen before.

Regards
