Stumbled onto this Ebay listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-DVL-91 ... 1438.l2649 , a brand-new looking DVL-919! The listing says DVL-919E. As an owner of an "E" version, I can confirm it's the standard DVL-919 model. Manufacture date was Jan 2009, coinciding Pioneer's official production ceasing announcement. The player is located in Japan, and the asking price is US$1,388.88 (also opened to offers). The price probably matches what it was worth 10 years ago. In considerations to the cost of decade long safe keeping, one could regard this is a real bargain I was in Tokyo back in April for this year's cherry blossom season. Went to a few Hard Off shops around town, and saw great conditions looking DVL-909 & DVL-9, which could be had for around ¥25,000. So the question is, would you just place the order over the bay, or buy a ticket & fly to Tokyo for treasure hunts?

Stuff is cheaper there but depends on where you live since I live close to Washington DC it would be more expensive and really long to fly there but then I could easily buy other things as well and see the country. There a pros and cons that should be weighted before deciding. |

That does look like a pretty spotless unit & from 2009 - nice. From the listing....... Products made in 2009, will be the latest model. Mostly not used, but confirmed in detail, but it is a very clean item "Beautiful Used" without scratches and dirt. All sounds good but..... We perform pickup lens cleaning of each LD, DVD, and take out the appearance after alcohol cleaning. I am perhaps a little paranoid but LD lenses (& others?) have a coating that has to be cleaned very carefully indeed or am I mistaken - I believe isopropyl alcohol & a few others are not recommended & should lens "cleaning" be undertaken only if really required? Am I being overly paranoid on the players listed that mention the lens cleaned thing? By who & what with? Why if the unit performs as is should? Again is it just me? Nice looking unit though & one of the last. |

They kept going with the 919 after all the others for practical reasons but personally I’m not a huge fan of DVLs so I wouldn’t pay that much for one in any condition. That naff 90s Champaign color...reminds me an Oldsmobile or some horrible lighting fixture pretending to be brushed metal. |
