I picked this up the other day at a vintage store. It looks like a Philips but has a Sony pickup. The player was manufactured March 1992. There are only three connections on the back: composite, left and right audio. It didn't power up, but a nice tap on the relay in the power supply got it going. I could tell someone had been inside it before by the wear on the bonnet screws. The pickup moves freely/doesn't move at all without me pushing it so I'm not sure if any parts were removed. I'm going to try and see what player this is based off of. Anyone have any ideas?

After some searching, this looks exactly like the Marantz CDV-70K. I found the Philips CDV400 service manual and it looks like this player is based off that.

Glad you found out, looks nice with the karaoke controls.

I'm not to familiar but do any karaoke players have anything other than yellow video R and L?
I always thought they just had the basic connectors.

I've seen some high end Karaoke machines that do have optical and even AC-3 RF outs, but they're pretty rare.

Ah, but I guess they still have only composite video, right?

I can't even see why they would put the money into extra bells and whistles for higher video when they were doing it for karaoke.

Yeah CLD-V870/V880 come to mind with AC-3 on them. The DVL-V888 has S-Video.

Then there is of course the CLD-Dx04, CLD-Dx05 line but those are more "LD Player with a karaoke feature".

It's essentially a Philips / Magnavox chassis. I used to have this model...

It had problems w/ the mechanicals (almost drilled one of my discs I think) so I felt it was not worth saving. After that, I never acquired another Philips or Sony model ever again since I never had luck with them and it's always hard to get spare parts for these brands.

I'm in the same boat. The pickup is dead, so it is a parts unit now.
