So my Pioneer CLD bit the dust the other day; the label came unglued from a copy of The Black Cauldron got whipped around the spindle snapped off a bunch of parts before lodging into the laser.

Anyway I'm on my backup player a Song LDP-1000a.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it, info, reviews, cool facts, there doesnt seem to be much about it. Its a tank, and if I'm correct uses an HeNe laser and was an industrial unit? I found a blurb in an old mag that said it was $3500 in 1983 :shock: . Remote works fine, however it seems to get a little louder after it has been playing for awhile (could be motor or belt?)
Also, I currently have it running thru the coax RF, and it looks like it has a composite out, but with a BNC connector. Would getting an adapter be worth it?
I'll still be on the lookout for a double sided player (Criterions North By Northwest has 5 sides) but the sony is good for now.

Shame about your Pioneer. I don't know much about this specific machine, but a BNC to Composite cable would be infinitely better than RF.

Popped on the LASERDISCARCHIVE site & not much details wise but some good pictures.....

This is an NTSC laser disc player that is used in Bega's Battle and Cobra Command. It is not compatible with the newer "LDP" series players such as the LDP-1450, LDP-1550, etc. See the Programming Manual for a detailed look at the communication of this laser disc player.

It looks like a beast & great that it still performs given its age, enjoy.

Sorry to hear that the PIONEER went through such a trauma.

:shock: RIP CLD player..sheesh. I'm glad you're using a Sony now but I do feel bad for this Pioneer. It died hard.

yeah, it made a terrible noise and gouged out a 2 inch wide scuff on the disk
