There is no voltage selector (text), but does have PAL selector.
Why not auto all the time?

I've dug back down to older projects! I have one of these, champaigne, DVL-909 on front and back. A/B area has some Asian 'text' where some have globe with 3. Has PAL switch, but no scart connector, no component. Trying to figure exact unit for exact remote selection, and then range of remotes. What have I got? Best I can figure, it's US, but I don't see others in champaigne. What remote would be normal - a black US, or one of the others? |

I think this is a Hong Kong player or something like that. Remember reading and seeing these for sale but can't remember what the deal is now. I think the PAL stuff is for the DVD only, others I'm sure will chime in about it. |

"Globe with 3" is DVD region 3 = Southeast Asia, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. |

Definitely the Hong Kong variant. Typically they have auto-switching power supplies. I had a '919' variant. |

Few observations: 1. The NTSC/Pal/Auto switch was specifically put there for TV compatibility purpose. It only works on DVD, & should have no effect on LD viewing. 2. The Chinese label is a verbatim translation of the English warning label, i.e. saying "Caution -- Risk of electric shock -- do not open". However it does sport the description of "Digital AV Disk Player" on top of the text box. 3. There's also a French warning label immediately below the English one. It doesn't qualify the player as an European model either. Recently I've almost bought an old player imported by someone from France. It was a pure Pal machine, sporting an "F" at the end of the model number. Similar to dual NTSC/Pal machine, it came with a SCART socket alongside with the standard connections. |

The fact that it's labeled region 1 is really weird, since SE Asia would be region 3. Anyway, the reason you wouldn't have it on Auto all the time is simple; your TV might not be multi-standard, so you would set it to whichever standard your TV does support. |

French Guiana is region 1 according to wikipedia. Parts of Central and South America can have both region 4 and 1 DVD's but I'm not sure about the players. |

A true 'world' player - like for sale to Military via PX - would not have any Asian writing on it. Like I said above, I have (had) a 919 version of this player, and it states "Video CD" on the lower left of the face plate (where LD-G is on the Japanese player). The Region 1 part is baffling tho - that is what mine had on it too. |
