All the main functions should work, although I'm not sure that it has the necessary buttons to access the comb filter/ noise reduction adjustment etc. menus. My 925 remote which I think is similar operated the R7G basic functions no problem at all.

Feck. And those are the bits you need access to and all. Ah well. I'll let my friend know...

Edit: there is currently a Pioneer CU-CLD108 remote on eBay in Japan for $134 with free shipping. Not the exact one for the R7G but will get him full functionality, I have one of these and it worked everything on the R7G and most things on my X9.

My R7G remote is CU-CLD150 if thats helpful at all

Thanks all and thanks jakeheke for this. With that model number I was able to find one on YAJ for an eyewatering price (yet cheap in comparison to what eBay and some other YAJ auctions are asking for one). It's being bundled in with my R7G parcel.

Are the R7G remote controls backlit? Or is it just the X9 that has this luxury extra feature?

Don't think it is, the illumination button is visible on the left side of the remote where fitted. Wasn't just the X9 remote that had backlighting though, I have a CU-CLD108 which I think is for the CLD-HF9G and that one has the red backlighting on the most common used buttons, likewise on several other remotes also.

Thanks for that. Ah well, not the end of the world. I'd be mostly using a Harmony remote which is backlit anyway.

I was surprised that the remote for the $1,800 DVL-91 was not backlit...
