I have the 909 and its working great but my friend has the 919 and the U Turn is playing up and I think it freezes after the U turn? Any ideas and does anybody know anywhere in the UK that would actually service an LD player now?

cheers

Scotty

Hi Scotty.

I bought a broken 919E cheap a few months back and fixed it up myself. One of the things that was broken was the flip mechanism; whenever it would try to flip it would make a grinding noise then give up after a few seconds. I found it was due to a broken part that stopped the laser mechanism from leaving the shipping cam after turning. I've detailed it here in this post. In the end a forum user from the U.S. was kind enough to help me get the parts I needed to fix it up and now it's working as good as new.

It may also be worth checking out the thread I started about fixing up my DVL-919E as places that still do services in the UK are discussed.

Where abouts in the UK are you? If you're anywhere near Sunderland/Newcastle I could maybe have a look and see if I can help.

thanks for the replies guys!!

I have just spoken to my find and his issue is that after the u turn (which is ok) side B will skip n jump for 2-3 minutes. If forwarded on 1 chapter after u turn all is ok? any ideas on a home fix for this. We are both ok with opening her up and having a dabble :D

cheers guys

Sounds like a problem I've read about in the past but not encountered myself. Sounds like the laser mechanism is struggling to move along the start of the side b rail. I'd open up the player and have a look at the rail to see if there's any dirt on it that might be obstructing it.

I read someone suggest adding lubricant to the rail but I don't remember the rail inside my machine being lubricated so I'd wait for confirmation from someone with more experience than me before trying that one.

Hope this helps.

I have seen the rail on the turn mechanism off just a little and it aligns good enough with the A side but has issue with the B side. You can actually bent the guide pin rail in the turn mechanism to correct this.

Maybe the pins that hold the movement gears in place broke loose, these are the two gears off the pickup movement motor.

I'll be in the UK in mid may. if I'm close to you I could possibly look at it.

If you're going to be anywhere near Newcastle/Sunderland, krbahr then let me know, I owe you a pint or two for the help you gave me with my player.

Hi Kurtis,

If your playing golf anywhere near Ascot, Sunningdale, Windsor, Slough or Reading then I would be willing to drive to you in order to possibly pickup the LD parts from you. . . . .That I have asked about, but no pressure if not.

I hope you enjoy your stay here.

All the best to you

Thank you for letting us know.

Regards
