Post subject:  List of remotes and the players they're compatible with?

I purchased a Pioneer DVL-9 and DVL-909 from Yahoo Japan Auctions but neither player comes with a remote. I'm hoping since the players are of similar vintage there might be one remote that could control both of them, but I don't know what remote that would be. Is there some kind of list of which models of remote go with which players, either on this site or elsewhere?

Almost all Pioneer LD remotes and players are compatible mix and match with each other. There are dozens to choose from.

However the DVL players (DVD combo decks) are the main exception. That was a clean break, I think, and you need one of those remotes. Once you have one it should do most of the same things with the other player. If you have model specific features they may require the exact correct remote to access but Play, Stop, Menu, etc should work.

I’m not the expert. I only do the pre-DVD hardware.

Yep.

Grab one from the Pioneer [LD+DVD Combi] section here: The REMOTE CONTROL definitive list

Just make sure it has the buttons you need as signofzeta said.

I knew there had to be a list somewhere, thanks! I only really need the basic functions for my initial testing purposes so if I can manage that for both players, I'll be golden.

The remotes for the DVL-700 and DVL-90 will not operate all the functions. You need a remote made for the DVL-91, DVL-909, or DVL-919. The nicest remote is the one for the DVL-91.

Yeah, I'm planning to buy a 909/919 remote. Apparently this one, despite being for DVD players, works with the 909/919? It's also the only one I've found so far that costs less than $50, I'm paying enough in shipping fees, don't need to spend $50-100 on a remote too...

Random side fact: DVLs respond to CLD remotes when in test mode.

That is a really interesting "Random side fact" there.... thanks.

That’s crazy. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

Remotes for the DVL-700 and DVL-9 have a volume control which controls the line out volume. If the volume on the player has been turned down, there is no other way to adjust the volume back up without the correct remote.

Well that's...annoying...

The CLD-S201 / 303 -- CLD-D701 / 702 / 703 / 704 / 501 / 502 / 503 and its clones also have an adjustable audio output as well. I think the point of the feature was to reduce dynamic range in case one was using less than ideal speakers that distorted w/ the highest (default) setting.

That list of remotes says the DVL-9 requires a CU-DV002, which I basically wasn't able to find. I am however able to find a CU-DV003 relatively easily, but I don't know if that would be compatible.

You should be good. That remote looks the same as the CU-DV001 except it doesn't have a Disc Side button.

Great, thanks!

I guess I'll pick up that one and the DV022, since according to an old thread I found on this forum that one apparently can control the DVL-909.

I find that the CU-DV001 style remotes are a tad frustrating to use because I use the display button a lot. CU-DV022 looks much more friendly.

CU-DV001 and CU-DV002 are identical except DV002 is gold. Both have a slide-down face that exposes a host of other buttons, including the "Disc Side" and "Display" button. The DV002 shipped with the DVL-9 and DV001 shipped with DVL-700.

The player doesn't have a "TV format" option as the DVL-9x9 have. You use the "Aspect" button to toggle the 16x9 output. It's a giant pain in the a**.

Most of the Pioneer CU-DV remotes (even DVD only remotes) will operate all of the DVL-xxx players, BUT all of the DVD specific remotes are missing the "Side A/B" button. In fact, the only difference between the CU-DV025 and the CU-DV027 is the "Side A/B" button.

For basic operations, the CU-CLDxxx remotes will work with any CLD-xxxx player. They also work for the LD-Vxxxx players too. The HLD-X9 also uses the basic CLD remote codes. Each Remote may feature custom buttons specific to it's mated player, but generally they most are cross functional.

However don't expect ever button on the remote to work with every player. For example, you can use a CU-CLD068 with a CLD-900, but Searching and chapter skip don't work because they were implemented differently between the specific players.

All of the top loading players also use the same remote. The remote for the VP-1000 doesn't have a 'Reject' button, the button from the LD-1100 remote will work on the VP-1000.

Post subject:  Re: List of remotes and the players they're compatible with?

I think the DVL-90 used CU-DV001 as well, which is no surprise since it is almost verbatim a DVL-700. I had to open one of these remotes once and saw they put a large weight in it.

Another problem mix and matching CU-CLD remotes is remotes with a Stop/Eject button vs separate buttons for Stop and Open/Close.
