Well.... It has been a long 20 months since I started to research this idea and now it has come to fruition. Check out this video that I just up-loaded to YouTube ....
The idea of this mod was to finally find a real solution to not only tap the AC3-RF Demodulator of the DP870 to extract a digital signal from it but to also allow access to the other two standard S/PDIF inputs and thus make this into a convenient switching device to choose between Dolby Digital, PCM, and DTS with the press of a button.
I know this has been discussed in this forum for possibly the last 8 years (along w/ the clone version - the Harmon Kardon ADP-303) on getting these units properly modded like this and I'm happy to say there is finally an answer on how to do it properly.
I'm still not done w/ the mod as I need to punch out a hole on the back of the unit to mount the optical digital output jack but once that is done an official write up will be added to this post w/ pictures and diagrams of my design .
