Is there a way to test this without having a AVR? I think my AVR needs repairs and not sure about this also. I sorta used it a long time ago but of course it got into storage along with everything else. I might be having my last trip so I should be able to get this finally from its sleep.

I would naively plug a self-powered speaker sequentially on each of the 5 outputs while playing an AC3 LD.

Let's assume the subwoofer output works if all 5 are OK.

You might be able to plus a headphone as well to hear any sound coming from each of the 5 outputs.
The A/V Amp is really only to amplify to drive speakers.

so what you are saying I can plug either self powered speakers or headphones into the 5 outputs while playing a AC3 disc?

Only one (mono) output at a time. The demodulator should output 5.1 analog mono signals as expected.

You can also use a 5.1 PC speaker system. I do that with my low cost set-up until I get around to updating it with a real AV Receiver.

My speakers currently use three mini jack connectors that I converted to the requisite six RCA connectors to make it work with my Sony unit.

Yes. It’s the older X-530 model.

I've hooked this up to my Pioneer VSX-1019AHK [multichannel in] and use headphones since I don't have speakers yet and so far it seems to be working though I can't tell on the AC3 RF because I get noise on it when I tried playing Little Princess, A (1995) [19100] also on Vertigo (1958) [42941] I can't seem to get the commentary though I also can't tell if the RF is working. What does is digital 1 (but not for DTS titles it seems) and analog line in 1 works. I suppose I can wait if I have to on getting speakers.

EDIT: I now get sound through headphones with AC3 RF because I connected the cable to the wrong jack but still DTS doesn't work but I know I need speakers but it won't happen until next year

EDIT EDIT I forgot I had to use the coax or spfid for DTS directly to the receiver. no wonder it doesn't work to the SP-99D
