I had this AV Receiver on loan to my brother for a few years now but I felt it was time to reclaim it seeing how AC3-RF equipped hardware was getting more scarce by the day. This was by no means a high end unit (in fact many consumers say it's crap w/ the rear amp blowing a lot) but compare it to other modern AV Receivers in a similar class you'll find the build quality (as well as set-up flexibility) of this unit to be pretty good still. Anyway, here are images of the unit.
Anyway, I got it back and immediately noticed that it was dead. I asked my brother why that was the case but he couldn't tell me since he almost never used it (should never have given it to him in the first place
). Regardless, I decided to turn this into a challenge to fix and I focused on the standby power supply to look for the usual blown fuses or any other shorted parts. Upon my initial inspection, I literally found the possible problem in the form of a leaky capacitor.
As you can see, the cap has leaked from the bottom and actually pushed itself up from the board. I couldn't find anything else that looked amiss so I went ahead to order a new cap hoping that was all I needed. Luckily, that was it and the Receiver is working again....

I couldn't ask for a more simpler repair.
I sure wished it could be this easy to fix my Marantz, NR1605 but I'll eventually figure that one out someday.Well, time to store this baby away for now until I find a use for it someday.
