I was wondering in if anyone has been shocked by there lexicon? I have it's really a lite shock and only occurs when the lexicon is near metal.

Can elaborate on what you mean by “near metal”?

If I had to guess I’d say the Lexicon is the only metal piece of gear in his house and he’s grounding his own static electricity through it.

Likely the same thing will happen when he touches the screw on a switch plate.

If you have a sustained “buzz” from holding the Lexicon…you have wiring issues.

I belive its static build up but to to be clear it's not all the time but I have a metal table/ shelf the I have my lexicon and my LD player and other stuff on. when I touch the lexicon it's kind of "buzzes" but not always and if I get it away from the metal shelf all together if completely goes away. I am going to change tables to wood to see of it changes.

Also if I unplug the lexicon it still will happen, so I don't think is a wiring thing but that's what I am trying to find out.

Static is a sudden shock, then it’s gone till it builds and shocks again.

AC has a buzz, 60hz in the US.

Thought: everyone should have a meter and know how to use it…

ok are you being sarcastic? or are you actually trying to help? cause nothing you said explains anything to me. if I was a electrician or a electronics repair man I wouldn't be asking for help on this site.

I will say that the Lexicon does use an AC power adapter (it's not a typical AC/DC supply). I'm not sure if this could be a possible reason.

In any case, does the unit have rubber footers to isolate the metal away from the platform you have it on?

Yes there are rubber footing but what's weird is if I lift it above and way it stop buzzing. I appreciate all the input here thanks!

Was this happening since you acquired the unit or is it a fairly recent development?

We are approaching Winter and cold weather in conjunction with dry air due to heaters being left on will also increase electrostatic discharge.

I think I noticed it like a month ago so not shortly after I got it all my stuff is in a cool dry basement I just want to make sure it's a hazard. the plug it's self is a lexicon plug and is warm to the touch but not hot.

That sounds like a recipe for static discharge. ;)

Electronics repairmen come to this site all the time.

Absolutely nothing I said there could be defined as sarcasm.

I’ll write it out more…

Step the First should be to determine what you are feeling. If you experiencing a static shock, which is nearly impossible to prevent, that’s not a problem and it’s not dangerous to humans. If you are experiencing voltage from your house leaking through the case, that’s a different issue. That would imply bad wiring, a failing component, etc and potentially a safety issue.

So…when you get shocked is it a “pop” and then it goes away? Like when you rub your socks on the carpet and touch a doorknob? If so, ignore it. Even if you can see the spark, there is no problem. This goes away more when it’s humid and sparks you more in the dry. You’ll get the same spark from anything else well grounded in the room.

Or, does it buzz? Like, when it’s shocking you, does it hum the exact same note as an electric shaver? (Half way between A# and B.) If so, there may be a bad ground somewhere, your socket may not be wired right, maybe a ground prong is broken from a power cable somewhere, that kind of thing. Humidity will have nearly zero effect on this.

thank you for the clarification, no there is no pop. it's steady kind of vibration shock feelings it does come and go, there is no ground prong on the plug it's just 2 prong. Sorry if I sounded snippy the comment sound like you were talking down to me instead of trying to help.
