Never knew of this model’s existence.

Anyway, it appears to be a clone of the Denon, AVD-2000 based on the LED readout and the rear panel arrangement. ;)

AVD-2000 + added DTS capability indeed!

=> Cambridge Audio V500

I actually missed that tidbit regarding DTS. Definitely wouldn’t mind finding one of these someday.

Is a very nice looking bit of kit.

Briefly off topic, back in the mid 90s - early noughties I used a Cambridge Dacmagic 2 in conjunction with my original Pioneer CLD-2950 & DVD-717 running as CD transports, and the styling of the Cambridge was identical to this unit, from memory not a bad sounding piece of kit either for the money back then.

I'm dubious about whether this has DTS capability.

Was just looking at one on eBay, and the front panel actually says "DTS READY" - which I suspect is a reference to the 6-channel analogue pass-through and a possible future plan to produce a matching DTS decoder which would take advantage of that.

There's no mention of DTS in the manual, from what I could see.

So my guess is it is just a badged Denon AVD-2000 with no additional features.

I missed the "Ready", it is not DTS-capable indeed.

Updated the Cambridge Audio V500 entry.

I missed it too; the writing is so small on the unit to pick up on that (or we just needed a clearer pic).

Anyway, no sense in looking for one of these now since that now makes it a simple clone of the Denon unit.

And this listing provides info on the US version Cambridge Audio V500 as well as close-up pics of the DACs to finish documenting the unit:

Internal DAC for Stereo => PCM1702 x2 (Burr-Brown, 20-bit mono)
Internal DAC for Multi-channel => PCM67/69A (Burr-Brown, 18-bit 2ch)

That sounds about right Julien :thumbup:

Here is the block diagram for the Denon AVD-2000.....

If you want, I have the product brochure where this diagram came from you'd like a copy.

I know the diagram but they would only mention the PCM1702 for stereo and then "2 extra 18-bit DACs for SL+SR and C+SW" without giving away the chip ref :-)

Hi…I was the guy who posted that video. I had never noticed the ready part under the DTS logo and I’ve owned the unit for years. To be honest I only used the unit as a switch box, and for some AC3 playback, which it is quite good at. After reading the above I set up the unit and played a DTS disk which failed to light up the lights. I wonder what you were supposed to add to the unit to make it really DTS ready?

My guess would be the Denon AVD-1000 DTS decoder which seems tailor-made to partner with the AVD-2000 (Cambridge V500) - it even passes through non-DTS signals on its digital output it seems, so a perfect match.

Although the hardware database here shows a golden Japanese model, a Google shows it was also available elsewhere in a black finish. But whether Cambridge Audio got around to producing their own badged version to match the V500 is another question again.

Found a 230V/50Hz version in black on Google, added here => Denon AVD-1000

Also found a Denon AVD-2020 that seems to simply be an AVD-2000 with side wood panels (same operating manual).
