I just brought a tiny Yamaha APD-1 that should be suitable for my Pioneer DVL-909 Laserdisc player, not sure how long it takes to post from Japan these days as this is the first time I've brought from Japan, my guess is 2 to 4 weeks maybe less might come by airmail within a few days a week waiting at customs no doubt to clear before being posted out to me.

Yeah, I'll only believe it when I see Sooty inspecting the package.

If it works at all? I'd have to use the electrical coaxial output.

I brought a step-down-transformer yesterday 240 to 100v/120v so I shouldn't be repeating the same thing twice knock on wood. The seller set me off another APD-1 only three days ago to replace the blown up one well at least the transformer is blown I have no idea about the rest of it.

New one should arrive before end of the month. I'm itching to listen to some Dolby AC-3 titles.

someone may buy it.

oh yes, i think sometimes but forgot about that too

the things that could go wrong in the piece that can't be replaced like the
capacitors and transformer.
things like the chips etc. more of the guts not the power guts.

Erm what? You blew it, and the seller is replacing it? FOR FREE?!?
Let me know your ebay nick, just to make sure you never buy anything from me, that I'll have to replace. :wtf:

Yes more or less for free I guess I have a way with words or maybe the seller is understanding. :)

Two packages arrived this morning Total Recall THX Laerdisc and the Dolby AC-3 RF demodulator which is now currently running DIE HARD 1988 Dolby Stereo Digital AC-3 and the discrete sounds nice without the common Dolby Stereo matrix crosstalk.

The packing is nice lots of bubble warp around the item it could survive Die Hard shoot-out bullet spree.

That looks like a Dolby Digital AC-3 lock on the signal to me. Odd how when searching back and signal takes a second to lock-on again. With dts its almost instant. With Dolby digital/dts DVD its instant.

I couldn't find a good place for the Yamaha APD-1 so I slipped it in next to the mixer. I've just noticed placing my finger on the side of it its a little warm not over-warm just normal warm.

since you have so much gear, do you have a fan behind it all?
to sort of keep it cool.
a little air circulation wouldn't hurt.

Author:  laserbite34 [ 08 Aug 2012, 23:31 ]
Post subject:  Re: Just brought Yamaha APD-1

Nope it wouldn't hurt at all :) and I'd need to get a few cheap fans to circulate some cooling around the warmest of items.

Post subject:  Re: Just brought Yamaha APD-1

i used to get the 4-6 inch fans that would mount onto stuff for my arcade machines.
so this way you could get the smaller ones blowing on the unit itself insted of a larger fan that may not
get all the air on each unit.

they looked like the fans in computers but i bought the ones that ran on regular wall voltage.

Post subject:  Re: Just brought Yamaha APD-1

The two fans behind the Dolby CP65 I can just hear those with nothing playing and their running at 4.5volts 6volts I'd hear them a bit more clearly, so as they are seems to be keeping cinema processor operating cool enough. The Alesis amps don't get over hot just so no need to put fans around them. The Yamaha AVR feels red hot at times so some cool air around that would keep me from worrying and I don't even use the internal amps isn't their off switch for the amps so it knows its running as processor only and not as processor/amplifier.

I have been running Total Recall over and over and over tonight and I have a few other Dolby AC-3 Laserdiscs I'd like to listen to. Too bad Total Recall didn't get a Dolby AC-3 release.

the only one i can reember playing with my full AC-3 setup was Pink Floyd: The Wall: Widescreen Collector's Edition (1982) [ML106344]

it sounded amazing.
the most i ever had at one time was around 14 discs with AC-3, unfortunatly i just could not justify keeping the setup.

one of my all time favorite films is: Excalibur (1981) [16102]
but i never had a chance to listen to it in AC-3
