Post subject:  JBL SDP-RFD demodulator
Just received the jbs synthesis demodulator, new in the box for a very acceptable price. Thank you ebay !

Does anybody have some more technical info on the rf timing setting ?
Heres what the manual states:

RF TIMING
3-position switch which minimizes signal errors, providing optimal timing for specific brands of laser disc players.
Recommended Settings Advance Panasonic, Runco Retard Denon
Normal All others

Since its beel a while since i used my ld setup, also two other technical questions:

- does connecting two ac-3 rf outputs from two laserdisc players to the 1 input on the demodulator pose problems or does it give a lower quality demodulation ? I was thinking of hooking up this demodulator with a t-splitter to make the connection for two players... Of course there will be only one player using the demodulator at once. Since it has 2 digital inpits, i can connect the outputs of two players for pcm and dts, so there is no problem in that domain.

- when selecting one of the analog tracks for commentaries, isolated audio, etc... Is this track converted and outputted trough the digital out or do we need to connect the analog output of the player to hear these ?

Im looking forward to hook it up but it will take some more weeks until i find the time, so i was already wondering.

This will form NO problem,and also no signal loss or what so ever. just don't turn em both on at once ;)

If you do put 2 players on at the same time, perhaps you get 10.2 dolby digital ? :D

To answer the second question, no, as far as I know, no player digitizes analog audio for you. An LD player uses three outputs: line level analog for the analog tracks, AC3 for Dolby Digital, and (assuming you have a TOSLINK/SPDIF) the digital port for PCM and DTS.

Kind of ridiculous by today's standards, or even mid-90s standards. The tech needed to send analog LD sound through the TOSLINK was hardly NASA-grade.

:mrgreen: Now that would be most welcomed. I think it would make some kind of noise? If two players where playing at the same time into the RF and then outputting to two separate AVR.

You didn't happen to buy this one? :mrgreen: Not bad winning price if you ask me.

I'm using the Lexicon LDD-1 decoder . these are clones you know...
I have splitted the AC-3 rf and pcm signal more than once to try out a player. No problems there.
The little toggle switch is in the Normal position in my setup. I can't tell any difference when switching it up or down.
I think it has something to do with "so called high end" players....
I never heard any difference even with a Japanese CLD-hf9G or DVL-H9 player.

It's a good thing I didn't end up bidding on that JBL.... I was watching this auction...

Have 5 demodulator's around now. I'll be dead before they all get used :lol:

yep, that's me :)

its indeed a brand new unit, a great find at a great price
now i just need to look for a 9v AC 220v adapter, not easy to find...

this one should do the TRICK....

I USE A SIMPLE 230-110V STEP DOWN CONVERTER TO MAKE IT EAT 230VOLT :D

DID YOU RECEIVE IT WITH THE ORIGINAL ADAPTER? I HAVE AN ADRESS AROUND WHERE YOU CAN FIND A 230-110V TRAFO

I do have enough step down transformers for us machines to european voltage. But i would prefer a simple little "power adapter" that accepts 220v and gives out 9v ac. (yep ac, i know dc is more common, then it wouldn't be such a touch to find item, but is ac that the jbl wants.)
