Used. Bought off an auction site, but someone added two fans internally. I took one off, and it works fine. Nice to have ac3 working. Do these run hot that they felt they needed to do this? |

Removed them , noting where they were hooked up. How they were placed ,made no sense and was noisy. Runs warm , but fine. My First generation appletv runs warmer. Meanwhile Men in Black sounded so good. There is just something about laserdisc. |

As you've figured out they run warm, if they were in an enclosed cabinet with other electronics the heat could have been enough of an issue that the previous owner wanted to add fans. They're still cheap and easy to come by, I wouldn't worry about it. |

I have an SDP-E800 also and mine runs very warm. I have it in a shelf in a cabinet with a glass door. I always make sure to leave the door open when playing any equipment. (I have the SDP-E800, a CLD-D406 and a Sony MDP-600 in the cabinet right now). Both LD players pipe their sound and video through the E800 so the E800 is on when either LD players are in use. If I had my druthers, I would replace the fans with really quiet ones. Go to http://www.quietpc.com to find fans that are whisper quiet. |
