Post subject:  [519] Price?

Hello all

I purchased one of these as a back up, however as I now have two Yamaha amps with built in demodulators this is surplus to requirements so thinking of selling on, what the going price for one of these?

It varies. I got one from ebay probably a year and a half ago for about £40. Like anything else it's worth what ever someone is willing to pay.

If its possible can you take some pictures? I can't put mine back together and also I would like a picture of how the wires were plug into the upper left (toward the back) from the front. I can understand if you don't want to open it up but if you could it would be helpful. thanks.

that is helpful. I can't figure out which yellow wire goes where. When you look at the 3rd pic from the bottom where it shows the wires connected to the box that has 11 and 15 on it. Does that mean looking at the above pic that the yellow wire that says 11 is the first wire in the white molex?

I forgot which goes where and am going to try soldering the wires since I pulled them out of the molex. thanks for the help.:D

THAT is a GREAT demodulator, I found one about three years ago and the sound of that little thingie is really, really good!!! I compared it to the build-in demodulator of my DSP-Z9 and I'd say the Meridian can't be beaten! You should keep it.

Good day to you smitken,

I have 2 of these MERIDIAN 519's and paid around or between £80 to £150 for mine.

They are still selling for these prices and are truly appreciated by most, if not all Laserdisc enthusiasts.

I hope this helps sir

Kind Regards to you.

P.S. hippiedalek Thank you for providing the photo showing the inner workings of the 519, truly well built indeed, and glad that I purchased mine..........I hope that you are well and taking goo care of yourself sir.

I'm doing good, thanks for asking : ) I hope everything is going well with you too, benmbe.

After moving house last year I was able to finally get my Meridian 519, and the rest of my laserdisc paraphernalia, set up permanently rather than it having to be moved and setup each time due to space problems, so recently I've been enjoying the 519 quite a bit, a great piece of equipment.

The photo of the inside of the 519 isn't mine, just something I remembered seeing around on the net. I did have to open it up at one point though to change the jumpers around. It's a solid device, really well built.

Hey guys,
I just purchased a Meridian 519 (and if you´re curious, I paid 116.-€ for it). And I need your help: The meridian has two digital inputs (toslink and coax), my question is: If I connect a player with ac-3 out and digital out, what will the meridian do ? Let´s say, I ´m gonna play a dts-Laserdisc, will it passthrough the digital signal and switch to digital or will it be stuck on ac-3 dd ??? :?: :?: :?:
If I understand this gadget right, there´s only the need for one output cable :?: :?: :?:

1 for ac-3 in (out from the player)
1 for Coaxial or Optical IN(out from player)
1 for Coaxial or Optical OUT to receiver

it will pass everything that comes out RF/AC-3 or the digital jacks [Coaxial or Optical] however you also need to have the analogue leads (R/L) from the player to the receiver since the analogue sound will only come out the R/L Read/White jacks.

~~
Has anyone encountered a shop in europe that fixes Meridian stuff? my 519 is still messed up and would love to get fixed to have a backup or for another setup.

thx xtempo for the help. One last question, does it "convert" optical imput to coax output ???
Can´t help you with the fixing, but here:http://www.ebay.de/itm/Meridian-519-Laserdisc-AC3-Decoder-/321442840337?pt=DE_TV_Video_Audio_Sonstige&hash=item4ad77c7f11 is someone selling it´s AC-3 decoder.

whichever input will be output through the out lead. Anything being outputed by coaxial or optical is the same just different cables is being used.

I hope somebody would know of a shop that fixes them and could post about it but maybe there all gone or something.

excellent, thx....now I´m waiting for the mood to re-arrange all my electronic gadgets and integrate the Meridian...oh my god....
What is wrong with your demodulator ? Maybe someone in the US is able to repair it ?

no sound. it is completely silent. Stopped working one day. the light comes when locks come on but no sound. I have tried new cables and everything I could think of. There doesn't seem to be one in the US. I have emailed Meridian but I never got a reply.

Does this AC-3 RF demodulator, have the same (like all other RF models) does it take 2 seconds or so before the AVR can get a stable lock on the signal when reversing/forwards on the search then resume play, does it take 2 seconds? Or does it react with instant stable lock on the signal? Or I guess all dts laserdiscs that react instantly are better ones. I'd just like Dolby AC-3 to get fast lock on the sound.

I got my hands on a 2nd backup Meridian 519 just today.
It is the 115V one however where my other one is a 220volts one.

pretty confusing description on the back of the unit since they label it to have another fuse when it runs on 220 volts...?

They didn't include a switchable PS in these units?
I was hoping a simple rewire inside would do the trick just like a Yamaha APD-1 110 volts is possible to rewire to 220 volts from what I've read online...?

This one actually has a linear power supply so you will have to replace the transformer.

Indeed I just found out the hard way
with the printing on the back of the unit as a standard for 110-230Volts I was hoping to find something switchable :o
