I noticed in the manual that the LDD-1 requires 9v AC for power. Would it function correctly with 9v DC, or would that do damage to the unit? I just received it, but do not have a 9v AC power supply to test it out. If the DC adapter would function, it would be a waste to go buy something new, but I want to make sure I don't damage it that way.

If you need a 100V 9V AC converter in Japan, the (at the time) exclusive reseller ELECTORI was bundling the following model:

NIDEC AC Adapter Model BA009-152D28

INPUT = AC100V 50/60Hz
OUTPUT = AC9V 13.5VA

you need 9V AC NOT THE DC one! won't work!!

There are some around on ebay etc....

I have an original US adapter here that I don't use. It wa snot easy finding a decent 9V AC in Europe!

Yes, it's the AC one... where is the problem?

Just watched a movie with AC3RF soundtrack entirely, no issue :-)
