I came across this listing on the bay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Parasound-RFD-1-RF-Demodulator-for-the-AVC2500-TWO-included-/261948348589

There appear to be two different version of the same model (RFD-1). One has the output cord hardwired the other has the cord separate. Unfortunately they are both useless as their output ports are proprietry to Parasound. They seem to be some sort of DIN connectors.

Unless you have the Parasound AVC-2500 pre-amp, you can NOT use these units!!!

Resurrecting an old thread!

Just spotted this, it was an optional upgrade:

https://www.parasound.com/vintage/avc2500u.php

There is a new one on eBay right now:

Kind of useless unless you have the Parasound processor to go with it since it has a proprietary din plug for it. However, I think the service manual states what the pin out of the plug is so one could hack up the wiring to create the appropriate connections you need.

I’d imagine it’s probably pretty easy to hack.

Yea but that thing has been on ebay since i created this thread years ago. No one seems to want it but he won’t come down on price which is nuts. It would be a worthwhile project if it was like $50 or less, not what he is asking. And for sure it will sit on his shelf forever.

Yeah. The sound is the same either way so if one is paying $100 or whatever they should just get one they don’t need to hack.

That being said, being that it’s from a garage company it probably already has a well labeled PCB that even a teenager could figure out so if I found one for cheap I’d get it.

There is an rca socket and a din connector on one side for all i/o. No power socket at all. For spdif, you only need one cable and another for ground. For power, you also need one cable and a ground. So it is likely there is one spdif pin there and another +12V for power on the din connector. You can turn this into a standalone rf demod but it will be relatively expensive since you also need a power supply and a few other parts to retrofit them. Then another $100 rf demodulator will probably perform better still. I don’t think DIN is a good idea for spdif anyway. You don’t really want to carry power and spdif on the same cable. That’s why high end dacs use usb 2.0 over 3.0(much higher power output) and they have the power legs open.
