I picked up a brand-new Nakamichi DE-1 on eBay a few weeks back, just so I would have a spare demodulator - I haven't tried it yet, but I was wondering how it rates as far as output quality compared with others?

I did unbox it, it looks (and feels substantial) like a quality piece of electronics.

Good day chileboy,

The Nakamichi DE-1 not much is said about this unit, but I have no doubt that it will be as good as any other.

I nearly purchased one of these myself a few years ago, but it never happened.

With Nakamichi's quality heritage for well built equipment, you will have nothing to worry about.

Give it a try and then let us know what the results are.

Sorry i'm not of any help here but I used to have a number of their high end Casette Decks of which were amazing to say the least.

Got this hooked up and it sounds terrific.

Better yet, it solves the problem I described in this thread when listening to AC-3 discs.

But, giving up the auto-switching capability of the B&K means I have to use a different input on my preamp/processor for the non-AC-3 coax audio out, and switch between the two inputs manually, depending on the disc. Not a big deal, but the auto-switching is nice that way.

I'm wondering if there is a problem with that B&K demodulator, or it's just a flawed design, because it has exhibited that behavior since I got it directly from them, years ago.

Good Morning chileboy from th UK,

I am glad that the RF-Demodulator is working perfectly.

''I hear you'' when writing about not having the Auto switching feature, but maybe could puchase another RF-Demod later with the Auto feature to make things easier.

The Meridian 519 would be the best unit to purchase for quality, in any case I shall look forward to hearing any progress you make in the weeks to come, in the mean time enjoy the AC-3 Dolby Digital sound.

Sincere Regards
