Hi Folks,

I just watched my first MUSE LD yesterday - yay!

Aside from a "ghosting" issue (contours are not sharp but appear multiple times...I don't know how to better describe it) the picture is very nice.

I have another issue though - there's a permanent OSD in the picture that probably shows either the input or the type of media played (several japanese characters plus "LD". Unfortunately, I don't have the remote...please tell me there's another way to switch it off

Thanks!

Check to make sure none of the buttons are stuck. Other than that you might have a bad decoder. I am pretty sure the OSD is supposed to time out.

Alternatively you could use the other set of outputs. The other outputs are for recording and do not have OSD overlayed.

If using a SONY MST or MSC model, do not user the monitor outputs (モニター) that constantly have the OSD on.

Just use the other set of outputs.

That worked alright! Didn't think it was that easy :D

Thanks a lot!

Which is the disc that you watched if you don’t mind me asking?

Sure!

It was Paris (1989) [00MW-0004]. The picture is very nice for the most part. It really is a fascinating technology considering the time it was made!

I have also watched Cliffhanger, superb!

Oh, and I've also got A River Runs through it, but I'll keep that for a special occasion :)

Interesting, I’ve heard that Cliffhanger is supposed to be a decent release, I believe the Paris disc was actually shot during the late 1980s despite its 1993 release date and therefore it was captured using earlier generation Sony HDVS cameras so not up to the standards attained by the mid 90s e.g. Ordinary Europe and several others could be mistaken for Blu-ray as the video quality is that good! I think you’ll be very happy when you run A River Runs Through It too, I posted a simple still shot taken only with an iPhone 6s on the Hi-Vision screenshots thread, it gives a rough idea what to expect
