Fortunately for you, I have written up a complete user guide for the MSC-3000/4000. See the link in my signature, or indeed the thread on this forum entitled "MUSE Decoder User Guides".

This is excellent. You once sent me a translation but these are much improved.

? The pioneer sp-d07 or the us equivalent sp-99d has analog inputs for 4ch muse which apply bass management and split rear surrounds(probably mono). This unit can be improved by tapping adc of the 4ch input. I don't know how advance the dsp for bass management and delay is.

Another option is creative dts-610 dts encoder. It has 5.1 analog inputs and outputs dts5.1 over spdif. Again analog inputs can be tapped to allow direct digit stream.

Another option is a htpc with two spdif inputs and hdmi output for 4ch pcm with blank video(black) this option might use raw dance output? A large enough fpga can probably do this?

Do you know if msc units are digital or manipulate signal in analog form? Can you mod the output for hd-sdi?

They are digital, no doubt about that. Unfortunately, so far as I can see, the innards don't conform to any common signal transmission format. Now, I could be wrong, & I'll let you know if I find differently — one thing I do know is that there are two different variants of the MSC-3000. But the way the decoding works pretty much imposes a parallel arrangment on the video channels. Another complication is the clock frequency, which is a non-standard value.
Unfortunately, efforts (not mine) to obtain a service manual have not been successful. A schematic & block diagramme would make everything so much easier!

Nicolas Santini told me there are two different msc-4000. They have different numbering in their serial numbers and the second type appears slightly revised(also newer). He didn't know what was changed. Probably nothing but a few newer components.

What do you think about the newer panasonic unit? Is it worth to look for one over msc-4000?

I have a manual for the TU-MDC100, but I've never had a chance to see one in action. What I can tell you is that it doesn't have the RGB output options that the Sony has. On the other hand, reports (albeit vague ones) are that its signal processing is improved somewhat, consistent with its being the last model put on the market ; certainly it is a little smaller. I honestly don't know whether it's worth pursuing. I like the TU-AHD100N for video-processor functions, to be honest, even though half of the things it does (Japanese NTSC satellite tuner?) are totally useless to me, & I really need to either obtain or emulate a remote.
