Not familiar with it. Never heard if it before. It might be a clone of another decoder. Can you show us some pictures?

Sure.. It dont look like any othe Muse decoder i seen pics off.. I once bought a HLD X9, and this thing, but the player arived in bits and pieces, so gev up on the hole Muse disc thing, im left with the decoder and 2 muse movies.

Its bigger than most laserdisc players, and th BNC RGBHV output seems to be for high quality feed direct to a CRT display, it would go straight into my Marquee 9500.

You are correct. It doesn't look like any other decoder. The fan in the back means it's an older generation decoder, perhaps 91-92. Muse decoding happens in digital. So the decoder either decodes it or not. The quality difference between decoders occurs in the input/output stage where analog to digital then digital to analog conversion happens. Newer decoders use high bit depth/sampling converters.

I found a site where it apears to be 1991.

https://www.toshiba.co.jp/design/pr/awa ... 1991_j.htm

I can try open it up take a look inside, if i remember right there was shielded in another cage inside, not 100% sure but think that was the one, making it bit hard to get a good look at the boards.

No matter how much fun it is, its hard to justify buying a Muse player these days just to test it.

A Google search turns up a few hits including mentions on n$a's and publius' pages but never actually seen anything like it before, so I tend to doubt you'll have much luck in finding anyone who could answer your question from actual experience as to how it compares to other decoders. But you never know.

The fan does indicate an older generation decoder but I don't believe that you can strictly correlate picture quality with the age of the decoder.

So whos the closest to Aarhus denmark that have a muse player, and like to see this decoder in action..?

I tried to obtain one once, but didn't succeed. My girlfriend has family in Aarhus, but I'm not going to send my MUSE player over thereā€¦ if you wanted to sell it, I might have her collect it, & then pick it up the next time I visit her in Germany!

MUSE decoding can be implemented in multiple ways, & the older decoders generally are less sophisticated about it, but it's difficult to see a quality difference in most cases. It winds up being mostly a question of size & power consumption. The original prototype decoders were all implemented in TTL (for speed), each one being the size of a large cabinet & consuming over 1 kW.
