the 2001/2005 PIONEER VSX-47TX/49TX/59TXi Series AVRs... the Closest PIONEER has seemingly come, - within the 21st Century -
to matching the rock-reliable, powerhouse Super Receivers of the late-1970s.

i fell in love with this series of AVRs back in the early-2000's... - in my very early-20's -
a then-brand-new, budding Hi-Fi/A/V enthusiast.

An Utterly-Unattainable (for me) $3000.00 MSRP in it's day...
i finally got my very own copy of the VSX-47TX, - the bottom-tier model within this near-identical family of Super-AVRs - for a Princely $450 Shipped... in mid-2022;

arrived yesterday (7/29/22) very well-packed, and fully functional, all 60-some beautifully-wrought Lbs. of it!!!
as gorgeous-sounding as it looks, with a sheer limitless sense of dynamic drive the likes of which i never even quite heard out of the mighty VSX-D1S...

Maybe easier to put the link to the Hardware entry?

=> Pioneer VSX-47TX

Yes, precisely why putting the HW database link gives that kind of information.

i really rolled a pair of sixes on this baby so far; authoritative, full-bodied sound, as well as dynamite cosmetics and overall build quality...

found someone parting out their dead but cosmetically solid VSX-49TX, which has a secondary bottom plate layer for better support of the receiver's 60+ lb. weight.

bought the double bottom plate off of them, and added the copper-plated outer panel to the identical one already present on my VSX-47TX,
which means i did PIONEER one better here, with a genuine double-thick copper bottom plate;

The VSX-49TX (and TXi) was a great model in its day and still holds up well for today’s standards (its inclusion of AC3-RF input + DTS decoding & six channel analog input are bonuses). Its lack of HDMI switching is a minor issue but anyone can add an HDMI Matrix switcher to make it work with any modern source.

I definitely would be interested in acquiring this unit if it wasn’t for all the other AV Receivers I currently have. Also, the D1S was always a model I wanted but I ended up with a 9700S which was one step lower but still served me well.

i was always fond of the looks of the VSX-7500S/9300S/9500S/9700S series myself,
but i stayed away due to the heat-buildup-related design issues,
such as de-soldering of the VFD display control leads and such...

That’s news to me regarding heat issues on the VSX-9700S. My unit seemed to run pretty cool even when it was located on a lower shelf on my “open air rack” (maybe that’s why it was never an issue).

In any case, I still have the Receiver but it has been boxed up for quite some time now. I plan to reactivate it someday as a stereo only receiver for my future work bench area.

indeed, tightly-enclosed cabinets likely are the issue behind faults such as that stated above. Fingers Crossed that that is actually the case...

Tasuke,

I do have something that will go nicely with your VSX-47TX!! A Nice Pioneer Elite DV-09 THX!

I mentioned this because one of my good LD Player clients in the past purchased a 47TX used(I belive in 2005)! Then he called me and telling me about the DV-09 DVD player that the HIFI shop discounted him if he was interested! I remember because it turned into a 3-hour phone call!! He was asking me on good video cables, Speaker cables, etc. Very Nice Receiver at that time, it still is to this day, minus HDMI, which is not a real issue at all.

I believe you had or still have a Elite DV-09? Correct? You told me many years ago I believe? If interested, I have one, and really have not used it in 7 years.(Still has the DTS sticker on Front Panel).

You have always took nice ***Pictures *** when you post on here Tasuke!

Yeah... my DV-09 died about a decade ago. Replaced it with a 2000/2003 DV-38A that, while not remotely as gloriously overbuilt as the -09,

has nonetheless lasted me just about a decade now of fairly frequent use, and seems to still be going strong;

That said; How much for your DV-09? any pictures?
