Today I picked up a used pair of Pioneer speakers I found on Kijji here. My other speakers were needing re-foaming, and not worth the cost for them.

These Pioneer are model CS-R580 made I think 1998 and are black colour. Checking they also came in a light wood colour too, which I would have preferred, but you have to take what you find sometimes. There 15" wide by 35" tall. They do have a couple rough edges on the cabinets, nothing too major, says made in the USA, and have nice sound to them. :)

I've cleaned the cabinets, but the grills have some dirt/dust on them, and I'm wondering the best way to clean them? Looks like there just plastic with speaker cloth. (no wood) and the cloth is heat pressed to the backside of the grill and not glued.

Here are pics I took of one just to see it.

Some people actually prefer speakers without the covers and deliberately leave them off, especially if there is a lot of real wood on display.

That is one option but I would guess the material to recover them should be fairly easy to obtain online if you prefer to leave them covered.

check a video on youtube on how to refoam.
if you mess it up you can always redo it.

i forgot to mention, i had 2 different sets of pioneers, one was the CS-T6100 and the other was
the CS-K531, they were nice.
from what i remember when hooked up both had a little more bass and a little less treble but good solid speakers.

also i believe the ones you have are from the mid to late 1980s not 90s.

Just an update....the speakers sound really nice, and as said lots of bass.

Well that was a date I seen to them on a review, and I was wondering about that too. Anyways I e-mailed Pioneer Canada and just got a reply this morning. They said my speakers were made in 1995

That is right in the cld-97 and cld-99 time, so should be a good match for LD players.

wow, i didn't know they made the CS speakers for that long, the ones i had totally looked like they were
late 80s.

still you should be happy with them.

The light brown coloured ones of these (pics I've seen) definately give a more 80's look then black colour do. Being black was popular, brown probably had to be specially ordered here. If you wanted it to match your vintage equipment.

I know I'm bumping an old thread but is it a good deal to buy a pair for $15? I've seen some around here though I already have a pair of SH452FK that are sorta of skinner but I'm not sure if their the same height. I might hook it up to that system with a Pioneer VSX 454 or my Sherwood RX4109.

if you can get them that cheap and they are fine do it.
they are really nice speakers, not top of the line but nice and give a nice range, if you A-B them you will notice that there is more bass
but all that means is that you have to adjust your EQ to your tastes.
