http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-vi ... mode=model I have a chance to get this for under 100 bucks and Im wondering if its worth picking up. Id like to use it with my LD player (DLV-90) and my Record player. I do see it has an upscaler in it and am wondering if its any good? Let me know what you guys think. |

Old tech. I would offer less than 100. Pre hdmi receivers are not worth anything unless they were high end back then You can find post hdmi receivers for little more than 100. |

well the tv in my "man cave" is a 32"crt with component in. So as for the HDMI I dont need it. I play a lot of old games and the CRT is the best way to do so, thats also what I have my LD player hooked up to. |

Agree offer less I have same make name, model is a few grades up RX-V650 which has an 8 channel analouge RCA input so I can use with the bluray players or one I use Sony BDP-S550 8 channel out to input and saved maybe a hundreds of £ pounds as the players have the decoders built in. The one your looking at only has 6 channel input so unless you plan to get a bluray player with 8 channel RCA outputs and save yourself a bomb. I'd offer less. I only paid for mine off eBay £65.00 with p+p I think £10.00? Its a few years ago and I'm pleased with it it can do the rest of decoder for dts-ES discrete, so can the model you're looking at but very few dts-ES discrete films around. |

HDMI nothing special about the lead its just smaller wires with smaller connector plug wow big deal, if waxed up string I could use that as HMDI string lead. |

If component is what you need, search for old high end gear. Denon avr 5700, yamaha dsp a1 etc. These wont decode new codecs and no hdmi. Nowadays they go for peanuts. Their pre amp and amp sections are still amazing by todays standards and will sound as good as 2-3k receivers. Since they are old tech most will have rf in |

There are a number of AVRs you can get for $100 these days. I see no reason to pick this one. It doesn't have multi-channel ins or AC-3 so its not the greatest for LD. It doesn't have phono level inputs either so its even useable for your turntable (unless you have a phono pre-amp or a newer deck with line level outs). Its a buyer's market shop around, be patient. On a good day you can get an old Pioneer Elite that would be better than this in almost every way. |
