Searching through all the AV gear on a local auction site here in New Zealand for something which can take AC-3 RF.

And i found this beast

Anyone know if these are half decent.
Just going to be used for the LD Player

They are great for LD players and the VSA/VSX series even match the color and shape of the HLD-X9.

https://audio-heritage.jp/PIONEER-EXCLUSIVE/amp/vsa-d8ex.html

I still have this baby, been using it for the past 20 years, it survived 5 international relocations.
Only the remote control died -- I'm stuck with the current setup, one plastic foot broke and the power button top-left is getting stubborn at time.

I'd love to replace it but until it dies on me, it is still performing as well as day #1.

Thanks for that Julien!
I think it will look nice below my R7G.
It has the remote.
See how it goes

The whole page is loading ok now, but it wasn't like that for me earlier.
Maybe just a localised issue but I was looking elsewhere and even ebay with zero issues.

idk

It lacks the later surround codecs like Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TruHD, DTS Master HD, and (of course) all the ceiling speaker related new sound formats.

With that said, it’s better built than a lot of current generation AV Receivers (this unit is actually an Integrated Amp as it has no radio built in) and it also has DTS decoding which is rare for a component that also has an AC3-RF Demodulator. I like the remote control as well; don’t see that kind of design with the LCD buttons these days.

I would get it.

It does -- they didn't exist when this A/V Amp was around -- but it also has 5.1ch IN (External Decoder In) that I use to feed from my OPPO BD Player 5.1ch OUT.
The OPPO does the decoding/preamp and the Pioneer VSA/VSX only does the amplification for new codecs.

It also has the PHONO input with ground that went missing for a long time until vinyl went mainstream again.

I forgot to mention that the amp does have DD EX and DTS-ES decoding which is also nice to have. Also, I would find the 5.1 analog input useful since I'm still using the older SACD and DVD Audio players w/ no HDMI output.

Man that is an awesome setup, very cool.

I'm stuck with my Denon LA-2100 hooked up to a Samsung Soundbar/subwoofer.

Hopefully buying a house later this year and I can finally start working on a theater room with actual surround sound. I constantly see retro Pioneer sound systems on my local Craigslist and FB Marketplace for cheap, I just don't have the space right now.

I still remember how HOT my VSX-908 would get when in use, just make sure you don't put anything on top of the VSA unit when you use it, or it will get bbq'd thoroughly.

Thanks!
I had been looking for over year now for anything can handle demodulating RF AC3,
I was actually close to giving up locally here in New Zealand.
$120NZD and a short drive in the end, manual remote and fantastic condition.

Yeah was just quickly testing that it read the AC3 RF correctly.

Once i tidy everything up it have its own spot.
Actually is quite clear in manual do not operate with DVD/LD players etc on top ,

Nice bit of kit there mate

How do you rate its sound quality and how does your R7G compare to your original CLD-D590, was it worth the investment?
