Bad idea? The 808 is rated at Power : 2x 200W (4 Ohm, 1Khz, DIN) 2x 135W (8 Ohm, 1Khz, DIN), no rating given for 6 ohm but I guess its between these two. 6 Ohm 2 x 167.5W?

I've read stuff that says "unless you crank the volume real high you should be good" to "voice coils will be burnt out within a month"..I default to the LDDB brains trust..

btw I just got my 808 back from the hifi store where it failed to sell for a year on consignment after supposedly being repaired. Will probably sell it on but want to test it first and don't want to risk my beautiful SS-AL5 IIs that it f***ed with before going in for repair. So want to hook it up to my office speakers, the 101ITs...

Currently have a Sony QS TA-FB920R amp hooked up to the 101ITs with no problems. It is rated at 100W over 6 Ohm and gives the Bose ITs no worries even at high volumes...

My MISSION speakers are 6 ohm.
I used them on a Pioneer VSX-908 in the early 2000's, and to properly run them at 6 ohm I had to press a button hidden behind the front hood: 6 ohm would be shown in the display.
I think I had to do the same with the Denon they are used with now, don't remember about the harman/kardon which was like 25 years ago. So I suppose there should be a setting like that on the SONY maybe?

Well the Pioneer VSX-908 puts out 100W per channel so similar to my QS amp. Also I don't know what Watts your Mission speakers were rated at.

My Bose ITs are rated at 60W/6 Ohm, but my 808 puts out close to 150W per channel at 6 Ohm. Baaaaad idea to hook em up together?

And no there's no setting to change to 6-Ohm, in fact the 808 has no LCD display at all but can handle 4-8 Ohm in the specs.

Unless you crank it up to the point of distortion you should be okay.

well thanks. Since there's no point in cranking to distortion levels I think I'm gonna try it tomorrow..unless there are any dissenting opinions?

My 101ITs, while not as valuable as my AL5s are still valuable to me, made in USA and put out a fine sound, don't wanna smoke 'em.

Yeah, the 101ITs are fine. Haven't pushed the amp past 15% volume though and that's enough power. Now i have to run this sucker for a while to see if the old problems recur. Crackly sound, channel drop outs. Tended to happen after it had warmed up for a while. The dodgy hi fi store I had it on consignment with have fixed it 3 times now and I'm just now testing after the 3rd repair. The headphone out is really f***ed up I just discovered. Sound is really "distant" sounding and voices are wierdly distorted. Before it was fine. : ( This f***ing amp has been my worst nightmare ever...wanna buy it?
