Looking to finally get one as I have had some Japanese things running a bit hotter than I'd like plus just figured it wouldn't be a bad idea. Cost isn't an issue within reason and I'd rather buy something really good and reliable. I figured some people here might have experience with this so if you have I am interested in any recommendations.

Airlink Transformers, I’ve had two of their units in my possession for a good while now for the purpose of step down from 240vac - 100vac and they are excellent products, definitely not the cheapest but typically British i.e. not very pretty and industrial to look at but very solidly made and reliable, I’m certain you won’t be disappointed gypsy!

Only possible negative of course is shipping and import charges

No way on how to say this but make sure its a heavy unit, when I bought one it was only around 50-70 but it was very heavy duty, but this was over 18 years
ago and you may have to search them out.

I didn't search up but I'm sure the one laserfan just posted is a top quality one.

I just did a quick search on ebay and the only ones that look good are in the 200 range but I'm not sure of the quality.

Hope that helps a little :)

Airlink looks like good quality but you will be spending no matter what.

Thanks to both of you. I was seeing some cheaper ones but didn't feel great about them.

This for example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J1ANSY

I'd rather just spend more and get something actually good.

Best transformers to get are from Japan itself. I have several 220-240 v to 100 V directly from Japan. All work great and are solidly build. I can’t find any proper 100v step down here in Europe. Only 110V ones for US devices and I do not want to use those.

Check out the link I posted for gypsy above, the 2 models I use are both proper 220-240v to 100v transformers and can come fitted with most European plug types i.e. C, E (France) F (Germany Netherlands etc.) G (UK) J (Switzerland) etc. I wouldn’t disagree with your comments about the Japanese products but these Airlink transformers are actually made in the UK so only perhaps 200/300 kilometres say from where you are in NL & despite b**x*t still likely to be cheaper than importing from JPN. These things really are brick like heavy also and dead reliable.

Do you have any particular brand you would recommend? I am not opposed to getting one from Japan. Looking at all options and weighing them.

Again its been years but this sort of looks like the one I had, or close to.
Maybe check out the specs on this to see if it may be good?

Yeah the best stuff is Japanese but it can also be expensive. Worth it though.

I do have an old cheaper step-down here... bear in mind I'm in Australia so this converts from our mains power.
Also this is for powering smaller stuff like game consoles etc. 65w max.

Minwa MW65U

It's an older Hong Kong build, I guess from the early 90's maybe? Small but heavy for the size. Has fuse panel for easy access and another holder in there for a spare fuse.

Never had any issues running Japanese equipment with this, for decades.

I guess there should be a US equivalent of this and some places will sell refurbished old electronics.

Anyway, specs of my unit:

Input: 220/240v 65w 50Hz
Output: 110/120v 60Hz (for equipment up to 65w)

This one of the transformers I use ( for several years now ). And they can be picked up in Japan for not more than a couple of tenners.
