LOTR, particularly Fellowship has a green tint to it. However it's very superior to to the DVD and VHS (obviously) in every other way.

The Matrix is one that was truly awful. I believe it was fixed somewhat recently.

There are definitely bad BDs out there, but I didn't feel Die Hard 2 was one of them. It's not great either though. It's average I'd say.

Even the green tinted master on the old Blu-Ray of The Matrix was still vastly superior to the LD and old DVD - https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=11854&d2=11852&s1=116864&s2=116835&i=1&l=0

The Matrix did receive a brand new remaster on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray recently, and the 4K UHD definitely looks better. The new Blu-Ray version has some issues with crushed whites and light blooming.

I feel the same way about the orignal Die Hard and Die Hard 3 on BD. They aren't bad transfers but they aren't great either. That said they both still blow away the DVD and LD releases out of the water.

But here's the thing. LD on my setup always blows away all other formats. Analogue video on an analogue screen just can't be beaten, ever. Sorry.

Next thing Forper is going to claim is that the Blade Runner Criterion Edition on Laserdisc looks better than the new Blade Runner 4K Ultra Blu-ray release. Yeah sure.

I've seen that film on Criterion so many times that I can't watch the restored version.
I tried but since they changed subtle things like the face on the stunt woman running through the glass, the talking that is not
synced when Deckker is looking for the snake skin and more.

I could never get into the directors cut or other versions, I guess I watched it too many times only having the one version and never knowing
or thinking one could ever get another version or cut of the film.

I don't feel that Ford had any integrity as an actor at that time to care one way or another to get paid again to do the voice over.
He wasn't that big at the time and was told what to do, I would have to see a film of him pissing vinegar in protest to do the voice over to believe that he didn't want to do it.

Not just being told 15 or more years after the fact that he didn't like doing it :|

Oh yeah didn't you know? film to video scanning technology peaked with LD and has gotten progressively worse with each passing evil digital format. I mean the 4K UHD has nothing on the LD.

Yes they can improve but your eyes are worse than 20 years ago, no way around that one
Next thing you'll be saying is your ears are better than 20 years ago too

Looks like the 4K is capturing slightly cleaner picture but also a lot of the noise?

As usual Alien, it's not about resolution, yeah sure new tech captures more. So what? The movie doesn't look like the movie anymore.

They are both from the exact same scan and overall same master, but there are three factors (among many others) to take into consideration in this specific case:

1. The UHD-BD have an HDR grade, which will amplify the grain to a certain degree.
2. The former Blu-Ray is low-pass filtered, smoothing out sharp edges and much of the grain, giving an overall softer image with less defined grain.
3. The former Blu-Ray is encoded in VC-1, which have difficulties to preserve the remaining grain of the image.

I believe the 35mm elements of Blade Runner were scanned on a Spirit 4K for The Final Cut, which is a step below the Scanity in overall capabilities but it's clearly not worth the hassle of going through the whole work again just to get a slightly better scan of the source elements.

Forper is going to get fat on all the goat meat you guys are throwing him. When are you going to learn to not engage him on certain topics? He’s a good member but you have to not trigger him on the HD thing.

The LD never looked like the movie in the first place because the tech is just not equipped to do so. That said the Final Cut was specially re-graded in 2007 and only exists on digital formats.
