He was a great actor in Guess Who's Coming To Dinner. Always played the black fella.

I'd often confuse him with Harry Belafonte though.

In The Heat Of The Night is on the rewatch pile. There will never be another. Legend.

He's on quite many LDs actually!

As an actor, but also as a director.

I honestly didn’t realise he was still going tbh, well he certainly lasted considerably longer than Grandad in Only Fools!…… RIP

Great stuff, don't think I've ever seen that show, may have not released it in the states?

Well I’ve got admit I too was guilt of that, only trouble is that this was one of the the most successful comedy series ever made here back by the BBC in the 80s - early 90s and I’ve seen every one back in the day so unlike you guys over there I’ve got no absolutely excuse!

Hmm, I’ve never seen it. My mistake. I’ll look into it. It seems funny.

While we get a lot British TV here, what’s popular there and what’s popular here aren’t always the same...not the same levels of popularity anyway. Most of the real garbage gets skipped (Eastenders, Strictly Come Dancing) and the really great stuff like The Young Ones and Faulty Towers get rerun into the ground.

Then there is the stuff that isn’t bad but also isn’t great and gets rerun forever anyway like Are You Being Served and Keeping Up Appearances, both of which just…never stop getting played on PBS forever and ever despite being as old as I am. AbFab is a favorite of mine but man they reran the HELL out of that in the 90s.

The Prisoner didn’t get shown much here after it’s original run. The Comic Strip Presents (love this show!) I only ever saw once on MTV in like 1990 and it took me ages to figure out what it was so I could track down more of it.

Really liked his role in SNEAKERS.
A bizarre movie, however more apropos as time goes on. (Imo !)
He lived to a venerable age, would have loved to pick his brain about current events polarizing our country.

Condolences to his family and close friends.

Fare thee well Sidney P !

Cheers mates

OMG is this the one where they had a black and white episode and they really liked the one womans leg so she took off the wrong one
and they hated her?

Seems like it since it had 2 of the ab fab women and 2 of the Young Ones.

EDIT: Don't want to add to potters post. but I did pickup some R2 DVDs cheap of the show, will post under the tat.

That’s the show. I don’t remember that episode.

Oh definitely do! It is certainly quintessentially British humour though so a lot of the gags might well go over a lot of folks heads. Also if you watch the uncut episodes there's a lot of material there that isn't really deemed to be PC these days. We'd go in to a whole Fawlty Towers discussion rabbit hole with it though so I'll just leave it at that.

laserfanhld-gb is certainly correct in saying Only Fools & Horses is one of the most successful BBC series ever made. It's been voted the greatest British comedy series of all time in years past. The traditional series runs stopped at season 6 and then it went to Christmas specials only then. Sure season 8 is comprised of 3 specials over 3 years if I remember right? There was a season 9 to round out the story, with quite a fitting ending. Season 8 had a genius bit of script work from John Sullivan (you'll need to watch the show all the way through from season 1 to 8 to understand it, in fact there's a huge clue in the video clip of Sidney Potter that I posted above that literally defines Del and Rodney's entire lives to that moment in season 8).

Now to go find that OFAH Blu Ray that was just released.

p.s: It's bloody Potter I'm tellin' ya!
