On Three separate occasions I bought LD's from someone in Tokyo, off of Ebay. All three were in Japanese Shopping Bags. Along with the usual Cardboard/Bubble Wrap. Can anyone translate the text off the outer ones? I shopped at the Tower Records in Greenwich Village NYC in the mid '80s a lot...

Hi Hawkwind. In the Communist utopia of Australia they don't even give you a bag anymore. You have to buy it and it can't be plastic, so you're screwed in the rain. The shop attendant just stares at you and waits for you to bag up items by your self in your own bag you bring. It's anti-service. It sucks. And everythings a big box store now too so they don't give an f if one customer is unhappy coz you have no choice but to shop there. Suck it up is there attitude.

The Japanese text on the bags is just the katakana versions of the English. "Yu Ni On Re Koo Do" and "Di Su Ku Yu Ni On"

Using my (so far) very reliable source for translation the bags just state the above english text "Union Record" and "Disk Union" respectively.

Some native speaker may please correct me, if I am mistaken!

I first visited Japan in December 2000, bought a ton of Laserdiscs on that trip, but they were all used so I probably didn't get any Laserdisc-sized bags. Kinda wish I had bought at least one new disc, but they were so much more expensive compared to used discs.

I lived in Tokyo then. I bought my first LD at Animate Ikebukuro used in a bin at the front for 2000JPY. https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/11650/BE ... ct-Edition with some damage to the box. At the time it was an 8 year old release, which strangely seemed like a really long time ago in 2000. It was the first major dumping of LD as the first anime DVD releases came out. I didn't have an LD player but watched it over about 3 sessions on the bank of players in my university's library. I'd only ever seen it as Clash of the Bionoids until that point.

I remember constantly visiting Volks and Animate then. I got a first release 1/60 Yamato DYRL Hikaru VF-1A in that year too from Volks. I even had a girlfriend. It was pretty much my peak.

I might still have some bags from those places..? Will check my archives one day.

It's a great time to be buying from Japan with the exchange rate where it's at. Hard to say how long it will last but I've been knocking things off my "wishlist".
