hand painted movie posters/covers are a lost art; some of them were really nice. For me, getting movies with great hand painted covers is a must, Camelot (1967) [12238], Excalibur (1981) [22030]
and Logan's Run (1976) [ML102144] are all favorites of mine

Good day yazorin,

I have the ''Camelot 1967 with richard harris''

I to really like this cover.

Criterion's Laurence Olivia ''Richard III 1950's'' of which I also have has a drawn picture on the front.
I purchased both of these brand new.

Regards

Deathstalker (1984) [???]

Boris is never wrong.

Fire and Ice (1983) [30184]

Nor is Frazetta.

Lord of the Rings, The (1978) [02009]

I think that is a Hildabrant. I could be wrong.

I am honestly trying to watch it but it is way to funny, but it is worth at least one watch if you can get it for cheap.

it's alright, some of it is pretty cool, it get's better at the end, the scenes with the chalice are pretty epic. But I didn't like the acting much sorry. I guess im a bit bias cuz my favorite arthur film is actually th sci fi mini series "merlin" from the 90's

The actual artist for the Bakshi (1978) Lord of the Rings movie poster was Tom Jung.

Brothers Hildabrandt did quite a few "LOTR" themed works that are epic !
A great example of their work is the cover art for J.R.R. Tolkien's "A Complete Guide to Middle-Earth".
A few others "An Unexpected Party","SHELOB","Goldberry",The "Balrog"........
Could go on as their are many to admire......

Come on yazorin, what is not to like about John Boorman's epic Excalibur !?!
All those young then, old now actors had to start somewhere !
Many pearls of wisdom sewn into that tale.
One of my all time favorites as well.
It has been a few years now, better key up the Player........

Would Rollerball be considered as a "hand Painted" cover ?

Thanks for the thread yazorin...

Too bad the artist didn't put that on a better background

Image
I like that cover, but this other variant movie poster I like more (which the LD cover is partly sourced from) . . .

Image
The movie is horrible though

Image
I bought that one just for the cover, even though I have the later Elite Special Edition

yes rollerball is a hand painted cover on the LD,

at a gallery in NYC i saw the roughs for sale of the Rollerball poster.

same gallery i also saw in person the brothers hildabrant LOTR painting from i believe a callender or book???
it was the large piece with everyone going onto the boat and it was AMAZING
size was massive, about 4 foot by 8 foot.

the gallery in NYC had it for sale, not cheap.

wow..Very Cool rein-o !
I read they had big canvas but that blows my expectation out of the water.
It was rumored that they started at one corner each and met in the middle for completion!
Could be an urban myth but did read that as well.
Can anyone weigh in on that !?!
Cool pics elahrairrah !!! Thank you !!!
Thanks again for this thread

I have some movie posters that are at least 4 by 6 so 4 by 8 isnt much of a stretch.

A Few More

Boy and his Dog, A (1975) [I5071]

Heavy Metal (1981) [LVD 10158]

German cover is the best, once again I think Boris
Heavy Metal (1981) [02.10158]

Soylent green is pretty cool, some of the James Bond stuff is pretty neat. Superman has a few nice covers. Forbidden Planet - Japanese version. Most of the older sci fi movies have painted covers. Some dude named Ricardo or something did a lot. I dont in particular like his stuff but he did a bunch. Inner Space is probably one of the best he did.

yes, but this was the original hand painted painting from the brothers hildabrant.
Killer piece, i have to ask my brother what it was painted on, i don't believe it was canvas but masonite board of some type.

That's not hotlinking, but going by the URL, it's a Barbarella poster, right?

Was it the Hildebrandt Barbarella poster?

Image

Or the same one on the LD covers?
