so alot of us laserdisc nerds love LD's because of the nice full size packaging which is so much better then a dinky plastic dvd case! but what about those really cool dvd boxsets? some are frickin awesome! i have to admit the transformers matrix of leadership set is pretty sweet:

it opens just like matrix! and then theres the GI Joe one:

Now those are really sweet

Good day yazorin,

Watched the video of the Transformer box set ''yes very impressive'' but if I had something like that, all I would do is throw away the packaging and just keep the disc's and covers.

I understand your point thou.

Thanks for sharing this.

My favourite DVD cases were always the early Warner Bros ones; the cardboard ones with the plastic clip. Flipping the front of one of them open and seeing a nice bit of artwork on the inside of the cover is the closest I've come to capturing the feel of LD packaging on DVD. On the whole though people didn't like them much and outside the U.S. they don't seem to have survived.

DVD has certainly given us some great boxses too.

I dislike those "snappers" where you snap shut the black bar. I like the BD cases now more over DVD cases..but it depends on the packaging some of the boxsets can be really cool and nice or a pain in the butt nice or ugly.

The early Warner Brothers ones were nice. It was often assumed that if the plastic tray was broken on those you were stuck, but that is not the case.
You could completely remove the card cover without any damage and put it back into a new blank frame which could be bought separately.

The only problem I had with those cases was the card sleeves often suffered from rubwear in the hands of careless collectors.

I don't really like the standard Blu Ray cases, I think it's the omnipresent blue bar at the top, it's just a waste of space and quite ugly in my opinion.
