If you play with good people everyones just honest and it isn't an issue.

It’s really just a dress up game for war cosplayers that make civil war reenactors look sane.

Yep, it's milsim. Some people think that's cool.

You should see some of the sights and straps and camera and walkies and smoke grenades and magazines and s**t these tools carry around with them.

Yep, I knew guys that wore actual body armor and added enough steel to their guns to get to 1:1 real steel weight. Completely useless in the game but they wanted to feel what it was like to actually be in combat. Milsim.

Nothing it too stupid to wear because none of it is performance related, it’s about being an invincible GI Joe.

No, it's about playing a Navy SEAL or an SAS operator on a rescue mission who could get shot.

You can get bio degradable BBs.

Yeah it's a sport, I don't play sport. Wasn't it on ESPN for a while? Boring. I want to know what combat is like without dying. I want all the gear, that stuff is cool as s**t.

I think you must be the anti-me. You and I disagree on everything.

That's what I have as well. I have this really crappy Chinese UZI lookalike with poor tolerances and loads of mold flash, but it does have a laser pointer which is honestly a lot more useful as a laser pointer than a targeting device because that thing has a terrible accuracy. I also have a sawed-off Mossberg 500 with a fake aimpoint but the gun itself is actually quite nice and I can actually hit things with it.

I collect bottle openers. I only buy those I like and not just for the sake of buying.

I also enjoy trying different beers, but I am quite the amature compared to some people. :-)

My wife used to collect ballpoint pens and for a while had all pens in our towns book store, so she had to stop. :D

@ forper

You totally annihilated signofzeta with your reply !!!

I generally have an interest in films, music and video games. And I enjoy travelling a lot. There are still some place I would love to visit - the US States of Missisisippi, Alabama and Georgia ( I would love to see a Civil War reenactment in the States one day ), some of the Carribean islands, etc.

But out of all the hobbies I have I think listening to music is the one I enjoy the most. It just gives me so much pleasure listening to a well mastered CD or vinyl record. My salary is OK but I nonetheles invested a lot of money in my equipment at home. I do not live in the best neighbourhood in Berlin but I don't care. It is more important to me to have a nice AV receiver, loudspeakers, DAC, phono preamp, etc. I just got a new Herbie Hancock CD released in 1988 entitled Perfect Machine ( I love Herbie Hancock !!!, such a great musician ) and it has an average Dynamic Range of 16. That's amazing and the album sounds amazing, too. I just love collecting music and listening to great music at home. I like partying, too, and I usually visit a couple of psychadelic trance festivals each year as I also have a great fondness for electronic music.
Of course there are some awesome music LDs and even VHS tapes with amazing sound quality, things that have never been published on DVD/Blu-Ray, etc.

I also have a great interest in history. My favourite eras are the Roman Empire ( I think it was a fantastic "country" without which our civilsation would look entirely different today, I visited Pompeji last year, such an amazing place !!! one of the most interesting places I visited in my life ) and 19th Century USA, especially the Civil War and the events leading up to it. The antebellum South was a very interesting place. "12 Years A Slave" is an excellent film about this period.

All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

Sorry but couldn't resist that.

Cheers

Other interests? Besides Laserdiscs? Outrageous!

But okay, here goes:

  • Japan
  • Film
  • Obsolete media formats
  • Video game preservation
  • Writing (my blog http://www.thecoter.ie and stuff I've done for other sites here and there, mostly gaming reviews)
  • Pressure cooking (that's with an Instant Pot, not some Gordon Ramsey type leaning over my shoulder with a bayonet pressed against my neck)
  • Niche crap absolutely nobody else is in to. Like Sopic, bizarre vinyl records like religious stuff, weird European traditional music oddities and strange records by religious nuts, terrible lounge singers and self congratulatory Z list celebrities
  • Super 8mm random lots of peoples holidays in the 60s and 70s
  • Aircraft photography books
  • Photos of 1970's airport interior architecture and signage
  • Facts about absolutely non interesting and boring crap nobody else would remotely care about and retaining and recalling said knowledge better than the decades of information learned in my actual profession
  • BASEBALL. MORE THAN ANYTHING I FECKING LOVE THE NEW YORK METS!!!!!!!! LET'S GO METS!!!!
  • NFL= Giants and Rams (except when they went to St Louis!!!!), NBA= Knicks and Raptors, NHL= Sabres and Leafs, Football= Norwich City and Barcelona
  • Minor League Baseball is awesome
  • Baseball stats, facts, trivia, Dock Ellis, Catfish, Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, NPB baseball Japan
  • General stuff nobody in their right mind is in to but I'd get a kick out of investigating it and writing about it and cataloguing it and, well, everything
  • The 1986 Mets
  • Running. I love running and have done everything from 5K to marathon distance. I'll be doing the Chicago Marathon in October, pandemic permitting.

I think that's everything.... :)

Apart from collecting music and television/movies on several formats, I'm into vintage computing like the 486 era and I like to tinker with things at home in order to keep them running as they should, like chainsaws, lawnmovers, etc. Not always I succeed at the first attempt, but I won't succeed if I don't try.
It's important to keep the head busy and try to learn new things all the time, probably a great way to reduce the risk of slowly getting dementia in the future.

I miss having my 486 and should have kept it but having moved with my parents some of our stuff we got rid of like the packard bell and other computer. sad times. I've rebought some macs over the years but I'll have to figure out a 486 machine. I miss DOS and playing monkey island was a blast.

Very neat and detailed blog.

Saw an old Macintosh at a thrift store about a year ago. Took a peak on the inside. Some insane corrosion all over the board I guess from a battery. The horror!
