Ever had a VHS pre-recoded tape that you, had to re-plug the left/right output due to sound being reversed? Or have ever came across a laserdisc that has the same issue (as of yet I haven’t come across one).

Ever come across a DVD where you had to re-plug more than two channels with a DOLBY DIGITAL mix?

Ever come across a HD-DVD or Bluray where you had to re-plug more than two channels with a DOLBY DIGITAL/dts mix?

This was quiet common issue on pre-recorded VHS tapes years ago, and only took a few seconds to re-plug to put the sound in the correct placement to visuals.

I have come across several DVD and bluray titles where I had to re-plug more than two channels.

Cliffhanger (1993) bluray, regionB dtsHD-MA/Dolby digital 5.1, I had to re-plug the fronts and stereo surrounds as both were reversed. Reverse the surrounds and left and right front by the RCA if using separate amps or reverse the speaker wires on the AVR receiver.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) region2 DVD Dolby digital 5.1. I had to re-plug the stereo surrounds as they were reversed to the fronts (easy to note is the bird of prey going to warp-speed and flies over to right surround just when it leaves the left front?? Reverse the surrounds by the RCA if using separate amps or reverse the speaker wires on the AVR receiver.

With VHS I had a few retail titles and since its some time back I can’t recall the title but it was popular title.

It’s not an annoyance it’s annoying thou the studio that released it wasn’t clearly LISTENING before it was put onto the street for sale.

Only one that comes to mind is the Ranma 1/2 OAV Box Set DVD from Viz Video. Left and right channels are swapped on a few of the episodes.

^^That’s interesting.
I think the thread is slowly starting to make some headway here. Keep the reports coming in.
Did you report this to the, manufactory or the studio?

Viz was aware of it, and I believe they did some kind of recall and replace, but I got the run around when I tried to do so. So I still have it with the swapped channels.

  Oh that’s just typcle load of bollocks you get.

Optimum Releasing who released Cliffhanger (1993) said the same thing, when I phoned them a few yeas ago.

I doubt very much the discs were recalled and no doubt the dodgy ones are still in most stores.
I couldn’t be asked to let Paramount Pictures UK know because they already gave me BS about the other issues with STAR TREK bluray.

Keep hounding them until they get it sorted.

I had a bad one from some local outfit here in the LA area, and sent them plenty of emails and got the typical runaround from the dufus lackeys who are all trying to save the corp. a penny here and there in order to jump out of the Jr exec pool. Finally I did a search and got the name of the Prez and sent an email and got a new disc real quick.

Yeah it must cost millions once it goes out in lesser decent sounding way. Its all a big rush all this mastering bollocks, and director involved which I doubt most of the time he supervised the release print to make sure its the same for the home release. They’d sooner make a few quick pounds or bucks to keep their fancy car rolling on petrol.

We’ve all seen rush jobs of bluray looking so much alike to the DVD version. The market for this is crocked at times. No care or attention lets just rush it, like they did with that lame STAR WARS bluray.

The price is often higher than the cinema ticket and they might only predict so many will buy it within the first month or 2 months and still they come out richer. I bet that is how the whole thing works. If they sold it for £8.00 chances are might not sale well because we might all be sniffing something odd going on.

Anyway I’m just thinking out loud.

Usually its trade in the botched version for a new version or give them the barcode and they’ll send you a new version at no extra cost.
