'Mad Dog McCree' Review - 90s Arcade Gunslinging in Your Pocket

Last week when we learned the classic laser disc arcade game Mad Dog McCree [$4.99] was coming to the App Store, I was stoked. I had fond memories of gunslinging at that giant arcade cabinet as a kid, and figured reliving the experience on my small touch screen device would give me that great shot of nostalgia that I've been fortunate enough to encounter often on the App Store. Then I actually fired up the iOS version, and learned once again that nostalgia is a fickle beast.

I never got into any other LD games past Dragon's Lair I & II, Space Ace and Cliff Hanger.

Still haven't been able to beat the Dragon's Lair games, even though this one arcade I sometimes go to still has the machines.

I never got into Mad Dog McCree, as no one around here ever had it. However, I do still have working Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and Thayer's Quest machines in my basement. All three are still going strong after nearly 25 years! Really cool games, when I can find the time to play them!

I just now remembered some other LD games I used to play . . .

Astron Belt

Firefox (based on the Clint Eastwood movie)

But I'm sure I dropped more quarters into Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.

KILLER!!!
i never played them that much at the arcades, i was too young at the time and they were too hard for me to figure out.
but the one i remember playing in CA was one of the hologram time traveler one.
can't remember the name now, it was a sega and i was on the lookout for one at the time when i had space but no more.

do you have tapper? i was at one time trying to restore one but wasn't able to keep it due to space.

the cabinet had the brass rail and it was a budwiser one :(
i even bought a bud board to go into it :( :( :( :(

Hi,

No, I don't have Tapper, but I do remember it. I have about 20 arcade games in my collection. The three I mentioned above are the only laserdisc games I own. Many of the others are in the Pac-Man family. In fact, I have almost a complete set of those, except for the three I didn't like, which were Baby Pac-Man, Pac-Land, and Professor Pac-Man. I even have a couple of bootleg Pac-Mans. The others I have are Berzerk, Frenzy, Time Pilot, Naughty Boy (bootleg), Battlezone (mini/cabaret model), Sea Wolf, and Rolling Thunder.

David :)
