I am waiting for a player with dual hdmi output. the panasonic does have two of these
4K pass trough on my marantz sr-7007 but framerate ( and hdmi 1.4 only) is limited so I need a straight connection to my HDMI 2.0 4K Panasonic

Oh, I do miss the simple composite solution now and then :lolno:

Compared to Blurays, some people find bd better.

Hey substance, is the audio the same or improved for the 4K streaming?

For streaming, VUDU uses Dolby Atmos if available for that title. VUDU's implementation for Atmos is different than Blu-ray's. On Blu-ray discs, the bed audio is Dolby True HD 7.1 which is lossless then there are up to 128 objects inserted for up to 4 additional overhead speakers for a total of 7.1.4(overhead). On VUDU, the audio is Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 which is lossy(about 448kbps) then up to 128 objects are inserted for a total of 7.1.4 as well. So you get the same number of channels but the fidelity is higher for Blu-ray. VUDU offers Dolby Digital Plus based Atmos audio for 1080p films as well.

Other streaming services like Amazon, Netflix, Sony Unlimited, they use Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 only. Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 is available for 1080p films as well.

in short, no the audio is not improved. you get the same lossy yesteryears audio on todays 4K video. Even Laserdisc or DVD audio is better than streaming audio.

March 1st releases. Picked up these 4 because these come with slipcases. Later pressings will not have slipcovers. I wanted Chappie, Life of Pi, and X-men days of future past but I will wait for them to come down a bit on price.

not me, i see 4K as a waste, a market gimmick.
Hell, my mom is always telling me that "the human eye and brain can't process that, we went from 60hz to 120, to 240, it's NUTS"
the difference is only noticeable with a 65" or larger television set.

i won't be making the jump.
i didn't make the jump to front wide/front height, atmos or those new surround modes.

Bought my first UHD BD today; The Peanuts Movie. I originally planned on getting the gift set but it seems like it's insanely popular and since the UHD edition contained the regular BD anyway I thought I'd rather get it right away so I won't need to upgrade this specific title.

Panasonic announced the DMP-UB900 for mid April in Europe  Pricing would be around 599euro... I'll be kicking myself in the ... :shh: 2 years later when you can get a better equiped player for half that amount
I'll be getting one after I've read the first customer reviews....
I'm curious to see if it won't have any firmwire bugs :shh:
Learned a lesson with the HD-DVD adventure altough the first gen. players proved to be the best around.
Do hope we're DONE with bugs, incompatibilty, and strange random freezing issues.

Then again,

It might be another gamble   :shh: :eh:

I'll just wait for Oppo to release their player instead. Never had one of theirs so I'm looking forward to it.

So far I bought

The Martian*
Exodus*
Mad Max Fury Road
San Andreas
Expandables 3*
Sicario
Kingsman
X-men Days of Future Past*
Life of Pi**

I am going to buy Chappie one of these days and the Revenant once its out. The other titles didn't interest me. I already anticipated Fury Road, San Andreas, Sicario, Kingsman and Chappie would get early 4K releases so I skipped on their BD purchase, these are my blind buys.

*double dip - bought the 3D BD before
**triple dip - bought the 3D version and 2D versions before

From what I read, Sony and Oppo players will be out end of this year, probably on the holiday season. Oppo had a $100 price bump from their top of the line DVD player($400) to their first BD($500) player, I guess something similar can be expected. I think I will buy the Panasonic player for the time being and later replace with the Mcintosh UHD player when it's out(for cosmetic reasons).

I don't care for cosmetics, but since I don't have a UHD TV set currently anyway I'm just saving up in order to get myself an OLED display until next year along with the upcoming Oppo. My last TV was a pure budget buy, as I was unemployed at that moment but I will be able to buy something vastly superior by autumn.

I have my entire audio gear(amps, preamp, ssp) Mcintosh, for that reason I am keeping the MLD-7020 LD player. I figured a Mcintosh UHD player would appear better in the rack plus it can be my CD and SACD player. I totally understand video wise it won't be any better than the rest.

You probably heard about the upcoming LG OLEDs. They have 600 nits brightness and support both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. I think one of these will be way to go until anything better shows up.

You mean the G6 series? I know of it, sounds very promising. Today it seems like LG (and Panasonic) are the only two brands actually trying to offer something new for the consumers while Samsung, Sony and Philips keep releasing the same stuff for years to come.

I think the OLED Panasonic uses the LG OLED panel but Panasonic processing. It's problem is its an early panel with 400 nits brightness and it doesn't support Dolby Vision. HDR require 540nits from OLEDs and 1000nits from other.

This HDR format war sucks. There is HDR10, Dolby Vision, Philips HDR and I think another one. We don't know which will be the dominant format. So far no display support all of them.

What type of UHD player are you guys using?
I purchased the Panasonic DMP-UB900 last week and it is superb in every way.
Got me the new Panasonic TX-58DX780E along with it. I'm :D with them.

Let's hope True lies and the Abyss get a UHD release at some point.... 8-)
