Sony Japan actually used different cases than anyone else for some time after the PS launch, special chubby ones. Some publishers stuck with regular jewels and eventually they all were standard.

Kinda sucks. PS cases from that area are honestly really cool. Even a mediocre game with good art, like Love and Destroy, looks excessively premium in one of those cases.

Long box jewels were just dumb. Sega (or let’s just blame Bernie Stoler directly, f-ing tool) invented them and Sony stupidly thought they needed to follow suit. Once it was obvious they didn’t need to copy anything Sega did to succeed they gave up on it. At least Sony’s didn’t shatter when you looked at them. Lord, US Sega CD and Saturn cases are just the worst...

I really like the look of the first print Japanese Symphony of the Night on ps1. It's the kind of case you are referring to I think. I quite like the case as well, for the longest time Japanese ps1 games were dirt cheap relative to their quality.

I just think of those as jcs but they are different than a standard CD jc. I also dig the oversized jc that some Japanese Dreamcast games have because of super thick manuals.

For those of you who think US Saturn cases are the worst have probably never had any PAL Saturn games released prior to 1997. I know the US cases easily cracks (just like early PAL Mega CD games) but the PAL Saturn ones are essentially nothing less than a tool for the Devil himself. The covers are glued to the plastic which always get loose, the manual get out of place when you open the case and the discs never stay on their holder. Games released in 1997 and 1998 typically came in plastic cases which used inlays for covers and could keep both the CD and manual in place properly, much like DVD cases. They were just fine tbh. I however only buy Japanese Saturn games nowadays, which makes a lot more sense imo.

I must admit I really love some long boxes for PS1. Got Resident Evil in my collection and despite it sticking out a fair bit among my other Playstation games it's still a game of its own.

Anyway... Last week I got a Sony BVM-A14F5M for my studio, equipped with both BKM-61D and 62HS for SDI, HD-SDI as well as dual-link. Can also display analog composite video and Y/C. Have heard some praise of its 3D comb filter so it'll certainly be interesting to see how it performs with Laserdisc. There were some scratches on the screen when I got it but those were only on the anti glare coating, so after I removed you could see that the glass was completely clean. 1080i looks extremely good, right now running from an HDCAM deck. Only problem is that the feet are missing so the monitor is slightly too wide for my rack. Will need to fix that later on.

Complete trash. I unfortunately have a few for some exclusives.

Nissling are you able to play Japanese saturn games on a pal saturn or vice versa? I know about standard region lock bypassing with an ar clone or pseudo saturn but was wondering if there was extra annoyance due to pal. I have a special opportunity to get some pal saturn games from this guy I've been buying from but need to know if I have to acquire a pal saturn system. Google seemed mixed from what I remember but I know I can trust you. Tia.

PAL Dreamcast cases does have some decent design but they break very easily unfortunately. Must say though I really love the PAL 32X artwork. It's really cool, much more appealing than the US counterpart.

Gypsy: I'm only using Japanese Saturns at the moment, as my only PAL game is Panzer Dragoon Saga. You can use Action Replays to bypass the region locking, but the main problem is the difference in vertical frequency. Playing American games on a Japanese Saturn or vice versa is fine, but don't think about using a PAL console with foreign games. Without the 50/60Hz mod the games will run too slow (which is typical for PAL territory) but even when modded to output 240/60p, the signal is waaay off. Resolution seems to be at 241p, which causes weird artifacts on CRTs and stutter on modern displays. PAL games that aren't optimized for 288p/50Hz can mostly be played just fine on an NTSC console with no other accessories than an Action replay.

Ah thanks. PDS is one of the games I hope to be getting interestingly enough. Shining Force III scenario one pal is included as well then mostly jp games. I'll see how they play and go from there. The deal is so good that it's worth it even if I have to get other stuff. I know I could just play a us burn if it comes to that but meh.

This thread always reminds me that I need to get around to taking a year off of buying more stuff and sort out what I have.

One of these days...

My house is pretty much like a forest of stacked boxes now, well two rooms are definitely like that anyway  I keep telling myself to sort through and sell some of it, but instead I just keep adding to it and not moving much at all. My three car shed (plus workshop) only has one car in it atm but is reasonably full of stuff too, my main car is always parked in the driveway

I think he's mentioned his parents before in a sentence like that and Zeta probably has seen it.

As someone who lost a parent in the last couple years I can't even imagine wishing for it.

Was that not about using inheritance to buy a large MUSE collection or the like?

Hoping that people die & parents to boot - very sad, perhaps warped.
