Tolerance for?

For me Macross II is the end of Macross and the only canon sequel anime.

The Kawamori-verse is a bad joke.

Great mag by the way, I have a few B Clubs from that era, I think one also covering Macross II and 7 in 1994.

What, not even Macross Plus?

But I can kind of understand where you're coming from; the original Macross had the whole culture thing going on and it worked in that context, but everything after that except for II and Plus it has just felt like they're just pushing whatever idol Kawamori happens to like at the moment so it feels like the story is an excuse for the singing instead of the other way around. Macross 7 was actually kind of frustrating for me to watch because I more or less figured out what the villains' thing was not even 14 episodes in, and there was still like 30-40 episodes to go so I had to wait almost three quarters of the whole series just for the main characters to figure it out, too!

What also doesn't make a lot of sense to me is that apparently in-universe, DYRL is considered a movie version of true events - except all the characters in the sequels use their movie designs instead of the TV ones!

I have a few issues if B Club from 1992. I liked the magazine quite a bit. I have the one where they build the resin VF-2SS.

The Giant Robo coverage from that era was really good.

If you want a sequel that is the exact same thing again with no changes and no growth then II is the trick. If you watch Macross for the robots exclusively, then dig in to Macross II. There is a new version of every mech from the OG show, even stuff like the Monster that they clearly had no use for in the first show, and yet for some reason little to nothing that’s totally new. Very unlikely...but fun to see.

Preaching to the Choir, here. as one of the earliest Anime to have well and truly blown my mind as a mid-teen boy 25-odd years ago,
MACROSS II is one of my top favorites, with it's rightful place in my collection.

still in all, i understand that there are many MACROSS fans out there whom are NOT AT ALL FOND of this particular entry in the franchise,
and, though i hardly agree with their opinion, i do respect it...

Hey Tasuke, can you post a pic of your Macross DVD you have there.
I actually own the Macross II and Plus by that A anime cartoon company.

I was watching it as it came out. I also really liked the PSP games. The ads make it look like it’s been moe-ed to death but it’s honestly not like that...tooooo much.

My favorite sequel is Flashback because it has the best animation and is the most direct sequel. It’s also only five minutes long so it was impossible to screw up. Slam dunk, impossible to improve upon.

My other favorite sequel is Macross 7 and specifically Dynamite.

https://youtu.be/hIaIta_C4vM

A Zentradi Captain Ahab. Space whales. Rapist record executives. Dynamite has it all.

Btw, there are way more HD grabs on YT but they are all stretched.

I don't know. I haven't got anything to compare it against. The only thing I do know is that it definitely isn't sourced from a HD master.

Not too keen on revisiting that particular era of anime DVDs. I like having the original opening and closing credits.

I know that set is the 2nd release with the English dub, I had no idea that one was brighter than another.

I do own a bootleg of that set with the English dub, I'll have to watch it side by side with my LD to see any difference.

I never really thought about FB2012 as a sequel, more a spin off bonus feature, but yeah I guess it's a sequel, probably the most important one.

Yep I have subscribed to only the "Big West canon" since about 2001, ie SDFMTV/DYRL, FB2012, MII and a handful of video games including DYRL for Saturn/PS that fills in some of the gaps in DYRL and the PC Engine games that extend the Big West timeline. About 1992-2000 was a confusing time to be a Macross fan. "Wow, new Macross! Wait, is this Macross? pretty cool on the surface, but is it Macross? I don't know?!! "

I hated Macross Frontier, one of the things I hated was the use of PMCs instead of UN Spacy. Everything else is just a lame mellenial rehash of the characters from the original.

I don't care that the animation is slick. There's no good feeling.

Especially Macross Plus. It's an off the shelf Top Gun inspired OVA story that has nothing to do with Macross. Kawamori liked it so it became "Macross". Not Macross to me.

Yeah it's all about feel. None of the Kawamori produced shows actually feels anything like Macross.

I think I’m thinking of the Animeigo version.

I have the LD box. It looks “normal” which is what I want from it.

it's a goofy mish-mash that most hardcore fans would likely be ashamed to even admit they own.

i got the empty case from a MACROSS WORLD member for cheap long ago,
and a DVD-R copy of the "ANIME CARTOON" bootleg, with good video quality and excellent english subtitles.

the overall quality, as well as the price, was hard to beat, so i've been cheap and lazy in regards to procuring a Legitimate copy...

I have the fx version. Is it expensive to get now? It is a very respectable release but I still just watch my LD, I know all the lines anyway.

Bluray seems to be the bootleg of choice on eBay now but people still do buy that DVD as well.

I recently got the (German) Blu-ray of Helloween’s United Alive, the video version of the Pumpkins United tour which basically brought everyone we wanted back to the stage with both lead singers being the biggest draw. It’s four hours or longer and they do all the songs. Video quality is perfect, pretty much. I’ve only listened to the 2.0 sound but that’s also pretty good. My speakers are off the walls at the moment so the 5.1 will wait a few days.

I know it’s a bit of a cliche to say that an old rock dude still has an impressive voice after all these years but it’s hard not to make that comment here. I can sing most songs from Yes and A-ha! but I couldn’t properly sing Eagle Fly Free, even when I was 17. Kiske is doing it at 51 and with zero problems. I love Hansen, seriously, but Kiske is one of my favorite vocalists ever. October just wouldn’t be the same without Helloween.

Tatsuke, thanks for the pics, but I meant the series that was to the left in the larger box.

I've seen similar versions of that image for the DYRL but not that version, so it was helpful in a fantasy way to enjoy the image but not want to own
But if you don't mind posting that TV set that would be great.
Thanks,

Picked up a CD-i system in great shape with a few games as well as a light-gun for it.

And the seller threw in a few movie VCD's as well, which work fine on this Magnavox 550 system.
