I was heading to the local thrift store when I drove by a 57 inch hi def projection TV. I parked my car and pushed it home( it was in an alley by my house). I hooked it up and discovered only the component inputs worked, so I hooked up a dvd recorder as a pass through and whamo a new TV thats totally awesome. So now I am left wondering, who in there right mind would leave a great TV like this in an alley?

Here is a picture of the TV.

Also my LD's look great on this thing.

Probably because not too many people want/like RPTVs anymore. Mostly everyone wants a flat panel.

So coupled with the fact that it isn't completely working properly with all the inputs, they probably bought a new TV and just wanted to get rid of the big bulky RPTV.

I am happy they left it, this thing is great. My games and laserdiscs look great on it. The dvd recorder was left in a trash can where I found it a year ago. Its nice when it costs nothing to upgrade. I actually prefer the rptvs over flat panels myself. Especially for the video out options for recording from online sources.

Update: fixed the rest of the inputs, all that was wrong was a disconnected wire inside the back panel. Cleaned the lenses and now this thing is factory fresh quality. I thank the TV gods.

Just a couple of months ago, a same sort of RPTV was put on the side of the road across. I was truly struggling on how to get the thing in to my house even if it was only 200 meters away. Well, several thunderstorms washed that TV down to a mere skeleton basically.

Now I really regreted that I had not done something before that. If I got big brothers with me... Damned populaiton plan left me with myself alone.

I have a 60 inch mitsubishi rear projection tv. Love the thing and am saving for the 80 inch. It is like 10 inches deep and looks cool.

I've been trying to track down one of those for some time, I need a big screen for my old computers and gaming systems without cons of using them with modern HD setups and those rear projection models seem to fit perfectly for such an usage.

The time around 2000 I nearly purchased the Panasonic 47inch rear projection, of which was a great looking screen.

To be honest I wish I had purchased this now, but at the time I didn't really have any room for it.

The good news is that I now have the room, yes sure rp-sets have limits but watching movies on them in general are a pleasure.

Good reading your experiences.

Regards

:D

i use my DLP projector to get an 80 inch 1:33 screen.
the screen is on a tripod, about 15-20 pounds and projector is a whopping 5 pounds.

no refrigerators for me

i would love to have a pull down but don't have the wall space and it was about 1/2 the price for the same screen on a tripod. and i can put it anywhere i want.

Da-lite is the best purschase i ever made, it will last forever and i can adjust the size for anything i want. if i need a 1:85, done. if i need 2:35 done.

i have the infocus IN72, it's a lower rez and looks great.

i think you can get them cheap on the bay due to the age, bulbs are always expensive.

some people in reviews mention the rainbow effect, i don't really see it but others don't even know what i'm talking about who watch it.

only thing you have to worry about with the wall is that it has to be perfectly flat, if there is anything you will see it, or so i was told.
