Title pretty much says it all.

Does anybody else think the wishlist option on any of these sites are just a total joke?

Looking at Discogs and found a CD, it says that 6 people have said CD in their collection and 6 have it in their wishlist.
While the CD is priced at 5.00 plus shipping around 3.50 what are these "collectors" who have these "wishlists" waiting for.

Are they just jokers who really don't want the item but its easier to dream.
Just my rant today before I go to rehearsal.

At least it has some practical use on LDDB.

I am using wishlist, not for buying it now, but as a memo to not forget that I want to buy the movie in the future.
There is maybe 50 movies in my wish list, then even each movie is cheap, it is not possible to buy it all now. It will take some years.
Then wish list is very useful for users as a memo.

I have tons of stuff on my wish list. I don’t instantly buy every title I get a notification for, largely because I don’t always have the money and I’m not always paying attention.

It’s great for buyers, apparently annoying for sellers.

Ditto....

My eBay wishlist is quite long and I probably only end up purchasing 1/16 or less of whatever is on it.

Same, and a lot of times the shipping fees are what kills it. I've asked around and almost every US seller charges at least 50 dollars for around 4-5 discs - which, considering the titles I actually want, increases the final price of my shopping by double or more, suddenly making it far less tempting, and instead I just end up waiting and hoping somebody in Europe lists them instead.

Or I just go to ebay instead and use the wishlist as a memo. The most use I get out of it the ability to compare a seller's shop to it and see if they carry something I actually want and not just blow all my money on impulse shopping.

So then I guess the public wishlist is what should be removed.

I understand if there is only one copy of some hundred or thousand dollar disc and shipping is too expensive.
But I'm talking about a five dollar CD on Discogs with a three dollar US shipping and there are 6 people who have it in their wishlist??????????
Do you actually collect or just like putting stuff in your wishlist.

Again this is more of a comment for a very common title with cheap shipping not a lot of 4 discs that comes to 15 bucks with 50 in shipping.

Another note, shipping over 4 pounds must be sent from the USA to overseas using Priority mail.
A single disc packed well with no dings from shipping will be over 1 pounds for 1 single disc, not a single title with 2 discs.

This is an act of the United States Postal Service and has been for the past 8 years, possibly longer.

I use the wishlist in the same light ......
... as a memo and a heads up when a title of interest gets listed at the LDDB.

LDDb wishlists (in the way they show up as bids) will also get an update at the end of the year:

So you don't have the 8 bucks to buy the CD in a wishlist???

I'm cheap but that's really cheap.

This isn't just about one type of wishlist, its for all these different wishlists, just too much already.
I think it should be a more private thing if people aren't going to shell out big bucks like 8 dollars.

If I have 1000 $8 CDs on my wish list then no, I don’t have the scratch for that. I get wishlist notifications almost every day. I’m not LD shopping every day. I make that list so that when I am shopping I can instantly see what’s for sale among the ones I want.

It’s not your wish list, it’s mine. Now does it make sense?

And I guess I don’t even know if people’s wishlist is public or private. I know I never look at anyone’s and I’m also never pissed off about it.
