Ok so I have been complaining on how boring the BD-sleeves are for so long. Never anything extra, so poor but mostly so expensive....

Why don't they do collectors edition in 12-sleeves witch some beautiful artwork and maybe a small poster, then we laserfreaks might actually be willing to put them next to our lds in the shelves. I actually hiding my blurays nowadays.

If I wasn't so lazy and knowing how much it cost to remake a movie to 1080 then I would have been licensing movies of my own and pack them in 12" gatefold sleeves. I think quite many would be willing to pay the extra 3-5 $ the 12" sleeve would cost.

Do we really need to do a want list with names and send to the companies before they realize this ?

But I do have to give them some credit for the latest box sets for aliens, jurassic park and the rambo grenade, but lets face it, were can I put that in my living room ?

probably because most people couldn't care less about the packaging. they just want a movie and features. thats why a lot of them dont even come with a booklet

yes I understand that. But my point was that the companies should show atleast a little interest and make a package for the ones that are a little more in to the collecting side. They even make most of the new big pc games in ltd editions with loads of extra stuff.

How hard is it to make a ltd collectors edition of a BD, if you make 50 000 copies of a movie just make 3 000 in my version of a good package.

Edit: even most new re-issues of odl artists comes in deluxe packaging lately.

the only cool packaging I've seen was the Lord of the rings trilogy. I love the hard case over the slightly oversized Blu Ray case.

I also like Gojira's DVD case (haven't seen the BD version). if they made a 28 film collection of every Godzilla film in uniform cases and Japanese language w/ Eng. subs, I would pay $300 for it. That'd be the holy grail of movies for me. too bad the studios can't come together and put one out

there are a few good blu-ray collectors sets. the Harry Potter Ultimate Collections are a lot like the LOTR Extended version blu-rays, they come in a case that opens up, and theres all kinds of stuff in them, art books, extra discs, digital copies, etc etc.. I have the Tron Legacy collectors edition, which is an Identity Disc that lights up, that one is out of print now so i'm glad i grabbed one. the Ultimate Watchmen set is pretty sweet, and comes with some extra features. They just started releasing Looney Tunes on blu-ray, and they made a special edition of the first release, comes with a shot glass (which i thought was kind of strange for a looney tunes set, but nevertheless) some artwork, and a couple other things. as mentioned before, the Alien Quadrilogy special edition with the Egg packaging is pretty awesome, but even the standard version of that set is nice. The Jurassic park special edition set is pretty cool, with the T-Rex statue. There was a Terminator 2 special edition that came out a couple years ago, with a life-size terminator skull. other than the skull, the 'extras' were somewhat lacking, but it came with pretty much every small-disc version of Terminator 2 available. Disney has also been pushing some special edition sets, with their Trilogy release of Toy Story in the toy chest case, and the Lion King trilogy set as well. anyway, there are some nice ones out there (these are just the ones i have) but every release doesn't get the special treatment i guess.

Some of the steelbook editions look attractive...

I guess I am in the minority on this but for DVD and BD I like the plain cases so everything fits on my shelving evenly; this allows more room for LDs and LPs (and CDs and SACDs).

I do feel you though; if you have a big a** residence it would be cool to fill it with stuff. Start collecting movie one sheets :?:

I guess I do violate my own rules a bit as I have a model Tachikoma that just sits around taking up space.

The major studios all seem to be cutting corners these days, due to the bad economy, I guess. With flagging movie theater attendance and poor sales of DVDs, so many Blu-ray disc covers look like they were slapped together in 5 minutes using Photoshop. There have been some box sets that had some effort put into them though: Blade Runner, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, etc. (Hmmm, all Warner releases...)

I just wanted to address the above statement, and how, when you think of it, it's not really strange that a shot glass should be included in the Looney Tunes set. Remember, for their era the Looney Tunes cartoons were "edgy" (hate that word but couldn't think of a more apt one) and adult, sort of like The Simpson, Family Guy or South Park is today. There are plenty of references in the '40s era Looney Tunes that fly over the heads of kids, and would never have appeared in a contemporary Disney cartoon: sexual innuendo, hints at profanity, alcoholism, etc. Sure kids like the cartoons too, because they were funny and well drawn, but they weren't aimed at just kids. Time has worn that edginess down, and people mistakenly assume the cartoons were created specifically for children because they aired on television during times when children watch, but they originally were made for a more adult audience. Remember, these cartoons use to play before movies like The Maltese Falcon, Key Largo, Mildred Pierce, etc. Not the type of movies appropriate for a child of that era.

Very true, hadn't thought of that. Also, good noticing that Warner has most of the decent box sets.

I think blu ray editors begin to realize packaging is still important. I've just bought a blu ray version of "a clockwork orange" even if i already have it in LD Orange mécanique (1971) [103113] . It's assembled like a book (two discs in each interior covers and some pages in the center with pictures, commentaries, actors, trivia, etc.
It's a pretty good packaging and i'd like more blu-ray were like this instead of just other colored plastics.

I prefer theatrical artwork that promoted the film, with ether US or UK sleeves.

There needs to be more custom packages for discs, other than just Steelbooks and other metal cases. Like the Evil Dead: Book of the Dead edition DVD, where the movie came in a replica of the Book from the movie. Or the individual and complete series releases of Speed Racer. One season came in a sleeve made of rubber that looked like tire treads, and the complete series came in a tin shaped like Speed's car, the Mach 5.

The only things I've seen like that were The Dark Knight Batpod edition, and the Watchmen set that comes in Night Owl's ship. Oh, and that new ET Blu from Germany that comes with a replica of ET's ship. I'm sure there's been a few more, but not a lot.

On the flip side however, some people hate custom packaging. Criterion now offers plastic sleeve replacement for their first couple of Blu-rays, because they were initially released in cardboard sleeves. Some people just want uniformity when it comes to their movie collections.

I am a sucker for cool packaging though.

The problem with the evil dead book is it contains a part of the real book and when you open it things go downhill fast. I tested it last night and yeah, it still does weird things.
