Just spotted this thread - when I was in Dublin this summer I rented student accommodation at Trinity College - cheaper than a hotel room and good WiFi. There was a huge recycling area behind another building on the campus, full of weird and wonderful stuff... and I couldn't take any of it because I was travelling by air and already close to my baggage allowance, even a keyboard would have taken me over!

Found a remote (RMT-D2480) that works with the Sony DVD/HDD recorder (RDR-HDC300) I got a while back.
Now I can actually access all functions

Few years back in Tokyo I was amazed to find a slightly used Guya VB-28 in a trashcan near my place.

With contacts cleaning, new strings and new holding screws, it sounds as good as new.

It's the model based (copied...) on the Paul McCartney's Hofner that was very popular in Japan in the 60's.

Atari 2600 VCS 4 switch woody.
Sega Mega Drive model 1.
Sega Master System controller (junk).

VCS has cut rf cable and can't any video or audio at all from it atm, tried multiple carts. Switches feel bad.
MD1 power led works but only had rf to work with atm for testing, video and audio are both terrible.

Both above consoles are very filthy, like they've lived in a dirt floor shack for well over 10 years. Neither had psu's I brought my own for testing (controllers too).

SMS controller cable was damaged at some point and has bulging electrical tape over a few inches. The buttons feel stuffed too.

There was a bunch of other old consoles and heaps of games that all tested ok and I cleaned them up for sale (at work).

Sony RDR-HDC500 & RMT-D2580 remote - tested and working ok.
Sharp PG-M10S - no remote.
Pioneer VSX-917V-S - no remote - seems to be working ok, but not thoroughly tested yet (need remote).
Xbox 360 wireless controller (black) - missing battery pack/cover - working ok.
Original Xbox controller S - missing breakaway cable - working ok.

Update on the old consoles I got recently:
Atari 2600 VCS 4 switch woody - got it working after extensive cleaning and reflowing some bad solder, I'll try doing a composite mod at some point.

Sega Mega Drive model 1 - some cleaning, a bit of reflowing for the av socket. Think there's something wrong with the rf stuff but whatever. The top and bottom metal shields had a lot of mild surface rust but I've treated all that.
Cut traces and removed 1 cap to make this semi-NTSC atm (still has PAL crystal), but haven't decided if I want to swap out the crystal yet.
I've basically got it working but haven't got rgb output setup so I've got B&W via composite out atm.

Had some storms recently so took a trailer load of green waste and some other miscellaneous (batteries, scrap metal) rubbish to the transfer station.

 Came back with:
Fender amp - It's a fairly modern model, couple of pots need replacing but works ok. Front grill fabric has a tiny bit of damage though.
PS3 super slim (CECH-43xx) 500GB - works fine. Did a full format, tested BD drive and updated firmware.
Power Mac G4 Quicksilver - exterior needed a wipe, interior surprisingly dust free. Seems to have 2x HDDs but haven't done any testing yet.

I'm sitting on an old computer to possibly use for this in the future, its a windows 98? Can't remember as its so old and I used to use it.

As for the subs and learning Japanese I'm too far gone and would rather the subs as I'm lazy with that stuff.
I tried to learn Japanese when I was younger but its just too hard for my Dinosaur brain and I'll stick with American

indeed, it would be mighty fine if we were all blessed with the Galaxy Brains required
to soak up forbiddingly complex foreign languages such as Japanese,
so we could just give Subs, Dubs and all their related issues the birdie and get the whole picture straight up,
but... well, We Are what we Are, just saying...

Not a recycle bin but I once saw a Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player at a Goodwill store for just $20.

Almost got it just to have a backup for my XA2 or for the bedroom.

Decided against it since I don't have enough bureau space or storage space for another player.

Just found a Yamaha DSP-A1000 in a rubbish pile. It sure has a weight to it. Assuming it works, would this better than my Onkyo 607 for sound quality? It only has normal pro-logic as opposed to PLIIz from the Onkyo. Having a quick look I can see the Yamaha retailed for $1.499. I bought the Onkyo brand new for £300.

EDIT: Just had another look. Its analog only, no digital inputs. Still looks like its built like a beast.

Perfect Dark (N64) - cart only
genuine PS2 DS2 controller (transparent red) - works well but left thumbstick has lost rubber top. I'll replace that soon with a spare.
genuine PS2 memory card x2 (black)
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing MadCatz Wiimote Wheel
Mario Kart (Wii) - box, internal tray, Wheel sheet & bag only

That last one means I have 1x CiB Mario Kart Wii now :)

HP 15 laptop with psu that wasn't booting - swapped in another HDD and it works fine now.
500GB laptop HDD.
Small box of dremel stuff.

Box of game (Xbox/PS2/NGC/PSP/Xbox 360) cases with slips and manuals (discs were missing or complete rubbish).
Genuine Xbox 360 Camouflage wireless controller (Special Edition apparently? idk).

Vintage Matchbox Robotech Zentraedi Officer's Battle Pod (1985) - incomplete (missing top gun and both guns at end of arms) and one leg has come off completely. Canopy is unbroken, in fact besides the legs needing repair this doesn't look so bad. I'm optimistic that something can be done here even though some repairs are needed and parts are missing.
