I tried Discogs, but find it very bad compared to LDDB : too much discs are in double/tripple/more, and some doesn't exist.
The design is also too much "smartphone/new devices" oriented. I prefer a clear list like does LDDB.
Do you know any website with the same level as LDDB, but in the field of LP ?

Considering how murky many records and even CDs' release history is (not to mention how easy they are to reproduce compared to laserdisc), I do believe Discogs is the best you can do. I do agree it's a freakin' mess, I've tried adding CDs to my collection and tried to scrutinize different database entries and compare them to my own copy and discovered there's barely any or no difference between them at all. My suggestion is that you just arbitrarily pick one and worry about it later.

T_T...
That's strange that, even discs with same serial number has different pages...

Edit : Do you know any good website doing serious reviews of LPs ?

Unfortunately, no. The research I make to look into the quality of any particular release is pretty much limited to checking them on this website:

Heh, no. No way. There are millions of LPs out there. LD lasted 20 years and was popular in two countries (let’s be honest). LP is now over 70 years old with no total break in production and was the most popular format ever in every country in the world at one point, more or less, and is now in resurgence.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were 100 million different LPs or more. Just think about all the Eastern Bloc stuff and African stuff you’ve never even sort of heard of. Infinity records, really.

That's pretty much what I struggled to put into words myself. There is just an insane amount of stuff out there. LP was the format of choice for decades and even after it'd been superceded by compact cassette and CD, it never really went away (there's stuff from the 90's that was only released on vinyl), and like you said, it's now going through a resurgence. It was cheap to manufacture and the technology behind it is so old and simple (groove makes needle vibrate, vibration gets amplified into sound) that even poor countries can afford it. I actually have one of those eastern bloc records, some Red Army Choir music on it, lying about that I haven't been able to listen to on the account of lacking a functioning turntable.

As far as actual reviews are concerned, the best place to look are websites dedicated to the specific genre or band you want to read the reviews of, really.

There used to be GEMM

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Electronic_Music_Marketplace
http://web.archive.org/web/20140705052352/http://www.gemm.com/

Discogs goes reverse and is trying to make another version for films (and many other things) -- that includes Laserdiscs.

I check some time ago and most (if not all) the LD information submitted by users were copy/pasted from LDDb

Ex: https://www.filmo.gs/release/278535-12-monkeys
Because of the copy/pasting, the user comments get attributed to who ever posts them on filmogs, not the original author :-/

At least now they added an "external link" to LDDb.com.

Yes, that's too bad...
If there were a real LP dedicated database, it could be very interesting.
Julien ! You know what you have to do now during your free time in Japan !

I actually already have that idea back in 2011 when I was out of job and wondering what to do with my spare time.

I registered kollexion.com to eventually move LDDb to laserdisc.kollexion.com, vhd.kollexion.com, stamps.kollexion.com, comics.kollexion.com, etc.

But then I got a new job that took 200% of my brain CPU cycles and gave up on it!
And Discogs came and did it way better :-)

LDDB is the best website about collection I ever saw ;)
Far better than Discogs !

Just tried again today to do some search on Discogs.
What a mess ! They have so many categories, include same categories in triple with different names... like "vinyl", "LP", etc. It's just impossible to do a rational search in this site...

That's because they took the approach of DVDProfiler.com => throw everything in the database, we or others will fix the mistakes later.
It goes fast, new titles are added instantly, pictures show up right away.

This is the Wikipedia way.

But you must live with the constant turmoil, editing, fighting and errors.

For LDDb I chose the "administrated" approach where updates are validated only when they make sense and pictures are only added when the quality is high enough.
I had no choice initially because the hosting space + database resource were very, very limited. It takes longer but the convergence to the right information has less volatility.

I have a question.
I might be getting a Japanese LD, it's listed here in the database but there isn't a cover picture at the moment. Do I just hit the update button to submit a cover picture? Are there picture size limits for submission or do you resize yourself after submission?

It's tough. I never could get pictures good enough to where I was happy with them to submit so I never did. There are a bunch of rules.

Hmmm, yeah my camera isn't great and my skills are rusty as hell. Are the rules listed somewhere or do you only see them when you try to submit?

If you click on any "picture/cover wanted" => https://www.lddb.com/help_submit.php

The instructions to take good pictures are there.

I agree. LDDB is one of my favorite sites on the Internet. Doing it right.

Discogs searching is very hard but you can do it.
I search by title and then view all versions that I'm looking for, it is a very hard site and they think they can branch out into other
collecting fields but we are past the sunset of internet site collection and true collectors use auctions or shows whenever possible and are
veering away from sites and apps that take too much information.

They can also talk to other collectors and not just sit at home talking to themselves about the cool stuff they have.
