Was this not popular when it was first release? Why buy a ticket and not go see it? I do want the Video + ticket LD but I'd take it without the ticket if I can find it.

Well.....
These types of things are very hard to understand and which one is which, on which day or time or year or, or, or...

There is another one https://www.ebay.com/itm/Unused-AKIRA-Katsuhiro-Otomo-Discount-ticket-MOVIE-JAPAN-1988/173679466896?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D2e88133973504a4cb26bcb2f37e52c43%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D173183409627%26itm%3D173679466896&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Don't really know which is older or what.
Its sort of like this Japanese book my father bought, when I went home to visit about 3 months ago I used google translate on the last page
and it was a reprint of the original but was sold to him as an original.

Guess it was an original later printing....

While it is really cool you have to make sure before shelling out that type of money that its the correct time period.
Also I've seen some other things on ebay recently like the TV Lensman box that is 200.00 but on YJ its around 40 I think, its a lot cheaper.
So these sellers are just putting higher prices for the US buyers and hoping to get more for the same item.

Good luck on getting one and whichever you get enjoy it

Didn’t the “production report” or whatever it’s called come with a ticket? Maybe that’s where they are from.

EDIT: wait, it was this one: Akira: Video Clip + Ticket (1987) [AKIRA-2000]

This one..... Akira: Video Clip + Ticket (1987) AKIRA-2000 ?

I picked one up a while ago for less than the post cost was to send it to me, a lucky find.

They do pop up but not that often though & very rarely with the ticket, only recall seeing one offered with the ticket but that must have been around 10 years ago now.

Just noted the price for the ticket - $89 - really???

Hope you bag one & good luck in the hunt (it has a couple of nice little PIONEER audio visual equipment promo adverts that run for around one minute at the end of the disc).

Cheers

Yeah, that’s the one. At the time I remember being surprised that they could get so much money from the fans before the movie existed. Even though Akira was $8 million to make thats still like 1/4 of what a Disney movie was budgeted and movie tickets were like $3.50 in the US 1988.

the pre-print a lot of tickets for ticket booths. So when they dont sell out anymore there will get tickets left over... Have no idea how they manage returns. Also it was not rare to go and see movies mutiple times back then. So if you get something in the way and have to cancel the 5th time, it might not be on high priority.
