xtempo wrote: Mentions Samsung drives, is that what you have? There are different DVD drives for that console (Xbox 360 has different DVD drives too). As I said I've never encountered broken belts before so I'm not even sure if there would be one belt to fit all the drives. If I did have to deal with a broken belt I'd probably pull some belts from old PC DVD drives I have to see if one fits instead of spending money on something I'm not 100% sure would work. Also, the listing says CD tray

xtempo wrote: Hitachi LG HL DATA STORAGE GDR 8050L That isn't Samsung so idk if the belt would be the same. I wouldn't be surprised if a belt from a Hitachi LG PC DVD drive from around the same time would fit though. I have no way of testing this myself without tearing down one of my Xbox consoles myself. I think I have 2x PC DVD drives that might be possible donors. If you don't have access to any junk PC DVD drives for free you could just take a gamble on those Samsung belts I guess, maybe they fit maybe they don't. Is there any real reason you need to have a working drive? You can swap in a DVD drive from another Xbox even if the drive is a different type, people sometimes use later DVD drives (v1.6 source) on early consoles.

I wasn't telling you to buy another drive. I'm just giving you info besides looking for a specific replacement belt which you haven't been able to find. The DVD drives aren't married to the console so they can be swapped. If your Xbox is chipped you can use a PC DVD drive but you will only be able to play backup discs on it, not retail discs. If you soft modded your console you shouldn't need the DVD drive anyway just transfer via lan, I mean if you dumped all your discs years ago and didn't wipe whatever HDD they were on. I keep forgetting these consoles have actually become worth something again, for years they were being binned or given away. I've given some away myself but I do have 3 right now.

xtempo wrote: What does that one do? I will see if I can remove it. There is no onboard battery for the operating system clock. The console uses a capacitor that holds charge so the clock settings aren't lost, I can't remember how long until the clock resets (the cap discharges completely) but it's like around a day or less. You remove the cap and the clock will always need to be set when you boot the console. You can replace the cap if you want but most people (because little skill is required) just carefully snip it off the board. If you don't remove it the contents of the cap will eventually leak all over the motherboard, possibly damaging the surrounding area. Just google remove xbox clock capacitor and you'll find guides, probably even videos. It has been a known issue for years it's no secret.
